I'm a big car addict and I almost became an auto mechanic but one thing that I cannot stand is the rotary engine. Not because it is loved by many but because since I know so much about friggin cars, friends always ask me to help fix those damn engines. One word of advice, you better be an auto mechanic, someone who knows a lot about cars or be friends with someone who is because the engines seem to break down often.

When you say "break down often" do you mean in the 93+ RX-7's? That's from poor cooling/turbo system design. Only last about 40k I've always heard... :o

hence why i'm asked so often.

I wouldn't mind a rotary car(in fact the rx-8's engine was named engine of the year)but I haven't had any personal experience working/riding/driving in one. However, given the choice between the two new Japanese sports cars, the rx-8 and the 350z, I would have to go with the Z(I just love Z cars).

As for turbo, I live for boost. My project/race car is a 91 toyota mr2 turbo that I want to upgrade to a t3-t4 and run at least 300-350 wheel horsepower(with supporting mods-fuel, intercooler, ecu, etc). That should be more than enough for a 2900 lb car. The bov is one of the best parts of owning a turbo... nothing like going "psshhhh" next to a cocky V-8 owner or weak rice boy.

i like the easy street WRX that runs a 9.7 second quarter. yay for AWD Turbos!

i love rotary engines... just the whole concept intrigues me even from a physics point of view... yes.. how nerdy, =P... such an original design... dr. wankel was a bloody genius... i think if more companies embraced the rotary engine, we'd have solved all the problems that people always complain about. if it weren't for mazda, there wouldn't be a single rotary powered car out there... props to mazda for carrying the torch...

i once saw a video of an AE86 powered by a 3 rotor engine... ridiculous...

acctually there are some major disadvantages of the rotary engine also such as highly increased emmissions and hardcore gas consumption

Rotary's in the RX-7 :nervous:
i wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Performance wise, obviously they can be great, but reliability...

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the Supra engine, but i'd rather take that inline 6 or the RB26DETT over any engine today ;)

unfortunately, i'm a poor student, so i'll have to make do with the CA18DETT in my future 200SX :D
Moongoose
Inline 6 kicks rotarys ass (or something :D )

Inline 6 N/A 343HP ... gotta love this engine...M3 ownz :D

Turbos  Well i dont have anything against them, they are easy to tune thats a big plus but i still prefer N/A engines
