Looking for a bit of advice and info dudes.

As soon as ive finished my A levels (mid- june 2004) i want to go and earn some moola before i start uni at the end of september.

Now i have a niggling urge to go and get a bit of a tan so have been looking at going somewhere like Israel or Australia to do something like fruit picking. But does anyone know if i will actually make enough money to save or will it just about cover my airfare of £600(ish)

Im looking to save in the region of £1500 over summer and if i cant do that abroard then i suppose im gonna have to stay here and sign on to a job agency.

Please post any knowledge and experiences to give us some idea of what i need to be doing/ thinking about/ contacting.

Thanks guys :D

stay here and do an agency job, you wont have to work as long, wont have to buy a train ticket and u'll have 1500 in no time, youll even have loadsa mone yto spend on other !

yeh, but with agencys they take a chunk out off your wages to pay for them selves, thats with these tempary jobs anyway.

I've been chatting to my house mate and she has travelled and worked abroad extensively (actually she is giving me itchy feet). She did the one yr working visa in oz, where she did in actual fact save over a grand in a few months fruit picking, or working in an all night kebab shop and farming camels.

As long as you are willing to slum it doing the back packing thing (ie sharing a two bedroom flat with 8 ppl) then you will have no problems saving money and probably the time of your life doing it.

If you want something more secure apply for jobs before you go, i'd try both independantly and through agencies. Might as well cover all options

thats a common misconception.

the agency charges who you work for a small amount on top of your wage.

i got paid 5er and hour, the agency charged my workplace 6 quid an hour.

I think that you would find it very difficult to save money while travelling. Fruit-picking etc is a way to get by while you're out there, often paying you accomodation and pocket money only. Most people i know who have travelled had to temp for ages to be able to afford to go, temping is where the quick and easy money is. I got £5.50 an hour at Virgin Trains and could work more or less when i liked.

I got paid £5 at my old job and somehow the agency had managed to demand £8.50 off my employers .. I know as I got to work with some of the finance side when i wasnt doing data entry.
