uhh?? no actually I do, every single one of those tracks was immensely popular at some point in time. Hmm, how imaginative is it too take 11 really popular "anthem" tracks and make them fit into a cd? I'd conjecture not very, but around here you never know... Halfway through the cd all your waiting for is the "next" breakdown like it's going to knock you on your ass or something. When it doesn't, I guess your supposed to be surprised even though you've heard the same formula played through about a million and a half times.

"anthemport"

i think you'll find that at the time of the CDs release most of the tracks were relatively unknown and certainly not renowned for being the classics they are today. i would argue that his championing of such records from day one has played a huge part in attainment of their "anthem" status.

when trance was at its best oakie was the best.No more need be said really, there you have it.

Instead of oakie been slack could it not be the artists?
Maybe if they were making the euphoric tunes from around 2 or 3 maybe 4 years ago oakie would still be pleasing one and all.

People moan but when someone does make those older euphoric tunes people slag them saying they are dated.
I myself would love to hear more stuff like oakie use to play.
Bring it on

See, that is the misconception, they aren't "classics", as in they don't offer some "new" or "innovative" edge to trance or even to edm as a whole (not a paradigm). AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THEY FAIL (UTTERLY) TO MAKE A STATEMENT (will not, have not, withstood the "test of time") WHATSOEVER. These two criteria are, in my mind, the ways to make your song into a classic.

Those trance tracks, are for the most part, disposable music. I listen to them, and I think "hey" minus negligible changes in the way people produce anthem trance these songs could fit right in with all the absolute e drivel that is pushed out today. I sincerely doubt my post is going to change any minds on the issue because the majority of users here have some dogmatic belief that "twinkly synths" and over-dramaticized breakdown's and buildups are supposed to evoke some sort of emotion. I will admit that I once fell under the guise of this, but recently i have been thoroughly and (i hope) permanently disillusioned. It's no different than pop music really, find a format that works, rinse, lather, repeat..

flame away... please

Here's my stand on Oakey:

He got me into the scene. I've never stopped loving him. I've never gave up on him. He still is the greatest in my book. I hope Oakey never retires. I will always be thankful for him and his music. His stateside/presents sets are consistantly good, and his productions are gettin better. His next artist album will turn everyone's heads and then everyone will like him again. Ignorant logic the majority has really.

talk like yoda, you do. :tongue2

ah whatever man... does it really matter? do you enjoy the music? if so, cool. do you deal with him on a daily basis? i highly doubt it, so what impact does it truly have on your life what he is like personally? maybe it's that attitude that gets him more respect in the business world? who knows?

You gotta understand....I'm a bitter man. :p

Anyhow, I guess he just really pissed me off when I saw him here...and he would do his little jesus poses and turn down the music to get applauses....excuse me, I want to dance and hear the music...not ing clap and cheer for him when he can clearly hear it to make him feel like a king. I don't need the volume to be turned down to clap and cheer.

It just really urks me when DJs do that. Dave Seaman did it 7 times in 80 minutes when he played here a month ago. I may be considered sad for counting how many times he did it, but when a DJ does it that much it's hard to not start counting. While I loved his set I am not sure if I'll see him ever again. The only thing that might bring me back is that I think he realized that the crowd wasn't really into the cheering/clapping when he turned the music down so he suddenly stopped and didn't do it during the last 2 hours of his set.

Again...I'm just bitter....please excuse me. :eyespop:

I wish Oakey would just go back to his old ways...when he was pretty much the greatest. As reports of his ego tactics started popping up in places is around the time when his music selection started slipping.

Oakey was one of a very few DJs who got me back heavily into Trance after I started slipping out of it in the late 90s....starting hearing all types of his stuff and just completely fell back in love with trance and EDM in general. I will always respect and love him for that. But until he noticeably loses the big head, my overall support for him will be lacking. I'll applaud him when I hear great sets from him, though, as it's impossible to deny a great set is a great set.

The next DJ I think might be losing my support...Paul van Dyk. Will be so hard, but I've heard some nasty things about his persona....yikes.

That's just your personal opinion though. There is no objective criteria for deciding 'classic' records. Generally what makes a classic is enough people calling it that. The majority of trance lovers do consider tracks from Tranceport to be classics of some sort or other, fact.

Oakey is a great DJ his new stuff is good.. iloved his album Great Wall... the whole purpose of his ty album "Bunkka" was a experiment to try and get America into the whole trance scene again.. so he threw out a comercial song that america would like which they did like since it was played all over MTV and radio stations across america..

Reminds me of his Club NV appearance, I was in the front row and I made a heart with my hands to tell him I loved him. He did it back to me so I don't believe that he is as insensitive as people say he is.
