i am a staunch supporter of Israeli nukes, the fence, and almost everything that they do.

but damn this is harsh. even the iraqi coalition isn't this reckless.

there will be a bombing very soon im sure. obviously there was massive hamas presence there but still, sounds like IDF wanted sniper practice.

8 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Strip Raid

By IBRAHIM BARZAK, Associated Press Writer

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - An Israeli raid on a Gaza refugee camp killed eight Palestinians on Tuesday in a flare-up of violence that came just hours after a high-level Egyptian peace mission to Israel.

The one-day visit Monday by Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher was marred by a confrontation with Palestinian extremists at the Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third-holiest site, that landed him briefly in the hospital.

Israel earlier told Maher it would abide by a cease-fire with the Palestinians, though it would not sign a truce with militant groups.

Early Tuesday, about 40 Israeli tanks and armored vehicles entered the Rafah refugee camp on the Gaza-Egypt border, Palestinians said.

Eight Palestinians five militants and three civilians were killed and at least 41 other people, including nine children, were wounded by Israeli gunfire, hospital officials said. The violence marked the bloodiest day in Gaza in two months.

One of those killed, Ahmed Majar, 32, was a Palestinian police officer heading to his job at the Rafah border crossing. He was shot in the head, his family said.

At funerals held hours later, the sounds of mourning mixed with those of gunfire and tanks moving as the incursion continued.

The army, which has raided Rafah repeatedly in recent weeks, said the operation was a part of its ongoing efforts to expose weapons smuggling tunnels and that troops fired in response to attacks by Palestinian militants.

"In the past, these tunnels have been used for delivering arms to terrorists for direct use against Israeli civilians, and Israel has vowed to put an end to such tunnels," said David Baker, an official in Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites)'s office.

Masked men with camouflage uniforms and headbands of the militant Hamas group ran through the town's alleys with machine guns. At the hospital, a man in a camouflage uniform and bleeding from his head was brought in on stretcher.

Residents said families fled the area in their pajamas and Israeli snipers were firing from rooftops. Helicopters flew overhead and explosions were heard throughout the morning. At least seven houses were destroyed, residents said.

Also Tuesday...

How can you be a "staunch" supporter of this murderous filth?
Palestinian
Dopey, this type of Israeli aggression happens all the time in the Occupied Territories, only this time you actually got lucky and the mainstream news reported it.

This is an email I received from Mazin Qumsiyeh who is an executive of Al-Awda, the Right of Return Coalition.

1) Please visit http://Al-Awda.org/christmas/ for a Christmas message
from the Holy Land. I am sending this around in lieu of a Christmas
card because it is not what you can hold but what you can hold onto: a
thought.

2) According to the AFP, the toll since September 2000 is 2,736
Palestinians and 856 Israelis (ratio 3.2:1). It is interesting to
observe the differences in the reporting by various media outlets of
how the latest murders of 4 civilians and 5 resistance in Rafah
(numbesr according to Palestine Red Crescent Society). It illustrates
the examples of shabby journalism that makes possible the continued
onslaught by the Israeli occupation forces on the native Palestinians
using US tax dollars ($5 billion this year). The fact that these
Israeli attacks are in illegally occupied areas was not mentioned in
most news outlets.

Washington Post
Eight Palestinians Killed in Gaza Raid
"At least eight Palestinians were killed and more than 30 people were
injured Tuesday in intense fighting that broke out when Israeli troops
invaded the Rafah refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip to locate and
destroy cross-border smuggling tunnels"

CNN
Israeli offensive kills 8 Palestinians
"An Israel Defense Forces spokesman acknowledged the eight deaths and
said those killed were fighting Israeli forces... Military sources said
there was heavy gunfire exchanges in the Rafah refugee camp between
Israeli forces and Palestinian gunmen, and four Palestinians were hit
while placing explosive devices on a road."

NY Times
Israeli Forces Raid Gaza Camp, Killing at Least 8 Palestinians
"Israeli troops killed eight Palestinians, including militants and
civilians, as tanks and armored vehicles charged into a refugee camp in
the southern Gaza Strip early today in search of tunnels used for
smuggling weapons, Palestinians said."

Jerusalem Post
IDF raids Rafah tunnels; 8 Palestinians killed
"There were no injuries to the Givati forces, though scores of grenades
were thrown at them."

Haaretz
8 Palestinians said killed in IDF raid
" The sources said that five of the Palestinians killed were armed, and
three were civilians, and that 42 people were injured in the raid,
among them nine children.."

Associated Press
Eight Palestinians killed in raid on Gaza refugee camp
"Eight Palestinians - five militants and three civilians - were killed
and at least 41 other people, including nine children, were wounded by
Israeli gunfire, hospital officials said. The violence marked the
bloodiest day in Gaza in two months."

3) CBS's 60 Minutes on the Security Barrier was a step in eth right
direction. See "Will Fence Solve Israels Woes?"

Below is what I wrote them using their feedback form

Your story on Israel's so called security barrier (actually an
Apartheid wall) was timely and relevant. It was however incomplete.
It did not discuss the effect of barriers and walls already on economic
situation in the occupied areas and on teh healthcare of people (38
people died at checkpoints trying to get to medical care according to
Israeli human rights groups). Neither did your segment address the
apartheid inside the state of Israel (barriers are also being
constructed between Jewish and non-Jewish neighborhoods. Nor does your
story touch on the larger exclusion of Palestinian refugees (Geneva
accord dismisses those and wants them settled throughout the world). I
urge you to do more stories and more in depth (the caliber I am
familiar with from 60 minutes). If you need contacts for expertise on
any of these issues, we in the Palestine Right to Return Coalition
(Al-Awda.org) would be happy to help.

Please contact the media often and do not let them off the hook, see

The Death of Newborn Twins from Deir Ballut
Latest News, PENGON/Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, December 23rd, 2003

Yesterday, Lamis Tayser Ibrahim, a resident from Deir Ballut village in Salfit district, was prevented from reaching the hospital in Nablus when experiencing premature labor; she is twenty years old with a one year old daughter and was in her seventh month of pregnancy with twins. However, the Occupation military closed off the entire village yesterday, prohibiting all movement in and out of Deir Ballut. When Lamis arrived to the villages main road to Nablus in desperate need of medical attention from bleeding and labor pains, Occupation soldiers refused to let her pass.

Lamis sat in her familys car, experiencing unbearable pain and fear for the safety of her unborn twins. Despite her consistent pleas, the soldiers prohibited her from passing and from taking shelter from the cold in a neighboring house. An ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital but the soldiers continued to deny her.

Within the time awaiting passage, Lamis began to give birth. The ambulance driver, who himself was not trained for delivery, told Lamis that her cousin would have to help her. Both baby girls were born in the car, a car still unable to pass to the hospital during critical moments of life and death.

After two treacherous hours, the Occupation soldiers allowed Lamis to pass in the ambulance. The timing was all too late. The first newborn child died in the ambulance near Al Luban Sharqiya, a village along the road to Nablus, while the second child died a few hours after reaching the hospital.
