| yeah at first i was thinkin about either gettin the numark 20s or the 30s dual cd players, but then i was thinkin "hey, this cd mix-1 has a built in mixer so that could save some money". well if that mixer is ty, then i'd rather get the dual player and the mixer separately. what are some decent mixers to start out with? does numark make good ones? damn i sound so dj-illiterate...then again, i am!!!!! |

Hi guys..
I am taking no sides, but can you tell me what is wrong with Gemini equipment? They seem nice for a good price!:D
Anyway,
CD players are also a good way to listen to your mixes on CD when recorded to PC and burnt |

I STRONGLY SUGGEST a pair of pioneer cdj100 and a decent mixer (pioneer djm300,stanton rm100 mixer). That stanton rm100 offers all the features you'll ever need for an extremely low price).
The pioneer djm300 doesn't have the headphones cue fader which it very critical at times but other than that it's a very good mixer.
the pioneer cdj100 is a very good cd player, used in alot of clubs, well, very dependable decks. It's well respected by the industry and if you every want to sell it, you'll have an easy time selling it.
Let's say a pair of new cdj100 cost you 700 us dollars.
and let's say dj'ing is not for you and you decide you want to sell them, you can easily get 500 us dollars for both.
on the other hand, let's say you get that numark cd/mixer all in one thingy for what like 600 us dollars and you decide you want to sell it. Guess what, NOBODY WILL BUY IT FROM YOU. Your down 600 bucks, why? because it's a cheap, junky piece of junk. |

GookPryD, i have the stanton rm-100 mixer that dj versus mentioned... i think it hasnt dissapointed me at all... i found it on 123dj.com for 300$ then get one of the numarks dual 20's or 30's... if you find a 24s (i dont know if they're still produced) it has that fader start compadibility with the stanton mixer and thats fun to play with... but then again the 30's might too (i dont really know) and they also have those seamless loops which the 20's dont... its all on how much you wanna spend.
a pointer is if you purchase those things from one interent source then haggle! they usualy come to an arragement with you... go to different sites and see whats the best deal they'll give you... after all you are spending quite a bit of cash. |

Yeah, you got a good point here... but he won't have a hard time selling a Denon DN-1800F or a Numark CDN-34. they're both quality stuff.
Now for a mixer... check out the Stanton RM-100, it really is a very good mixer for a very resonable price (about 300$)
Also check out the Behringer DX-500, a great mixer for a very cheap price (about 200$). |

When I started DJ-ing I bought CD players because I was in the same situation as you GooKPryD, but after three months I spined in two turntables and I was amazed. Turntables are much more cool than the cd players. Now I bought my turntables and I leaved cd players. sometimes I use CD players but they are not compared with the turntables. Turntables are the best for djin, Why do you think that all the best djs of the world use turntables???
it's difficult to find vinyl, but, i dont know why, this make better because when you get the vinyl you want you play it more, and you feel that you cant stop playing you vinyls.
so if you are starting i recomend to buy turntables. |

yeah you all forgot one little thing, no B-SIDES!!!!
so what are all you cd djs going to do, find out big huge tracks from pvd, armin and jules radio shows and quickly burn them to cd and then spin those tracks?
well GOOD FOR YOU. we'll see how far you get copying your favorite djs instead of developing your own sound and spinning less-known, relatively "underground" tracks. MANY of which are hidden away on vinyl b-sides and are only played by a lucky, studious few.
so that's the main thing i think. vinyl djs may have to wait longer for new "hot" releases, but we have many more options to choose from... its not like you can find old classics from the early 90s on mp3 format anyways right? if its sold out on vinyl, the chances of you finding it "unmixed" on cd/mp3 are very small too..
my two cents. |

i spin records as well.
my opinion is.. yah it's really irritating when you hear an amazing song. and you can't find it on record.
but the ups of vinyll. you only get a few good records at a time. so you have time to master the record and know it well. I think personally if i became a cd-dj. within a matter of weeks i would have a 100 cd book filled with cool songs i heard here and there. and when it comes time to perform i wouldn't know what to play. looking at the record kinda brings back the memory of the music to me.
and the other great thing about buying a single record, is you usually get remixes!! not always big remixes that people know, but say your playing a set with some nice thumping base, almost a housy set - everyones into it. you wanna play a song, but its really trancy and the beat drops out.. so you throw on side B and keep the beat going. |

I completely agree with peeps from above
i also started with CD's cause I havelots of them
and I didnt have money for tables and records
I wanted to start fast so I can start practicing and training my ear
so I bought 2 American DJ CD Pro DJ 1
the cheapest decks that i could have found around my place
and they are serving me well for practising purposes
however I would like CDJ 100 or some other more reliable decks with better start time and seamless loop which i could take to gigs when I get some :)
but I have no money :(
and yes problem is that I have lot of them , and its a problem to become intimate with the songs when you can get so many of them at one time, unlike vinyl |

hello GooKPryD, i think that you will make a great choice if you will buy the numark mixer, i think this mixer is the best for a beginner, its compact and its cheap and the quallety is ok.
in my opinion you should by it, if you will decide to go ferther with your hobby and become a pro then you should get your self a set of turntabels or good dual cd players.
cheers |

I've been checking into the Pioneer CDJ1000's, and I've got a question. On all of the webpages that I've looked at which describe the features, all of them hint at this, but never come out and say it..
Does the jog dial actually spin on its own??
here's an example of the quotes I've been finding..
"This thing is pure heaven. Using the Vinyl/CDJ selector switch you can use the plate either as the normal CDJ jog wheel, or as a digitally replicated vinyl platter!"
on http://www.12am.com.au/djtoys/cdj1000.html
Thanks in advance!
