Hey you,Dj!!! You spin the music you really like?
I can't do that. My environment hate or can't accept trance music!!!
So, if i want survive working as a Dj i have to put crap in my sets.
I'm the only one?
j_spot
Well yes and no.

When I work as a DJ I dont get to spin what I want all the time. I need to play top 40 hip hop and complete and Dance tunes(ie Darude/Vengaboys)
BUT when I come home or spin with/for my friends, all I play is trance...And some hip hop/rap, but trance 95% of the time.

Hell yea I do! I feel your pain man....but if it was up to me....I'd rather just be a bedroom dj, rather than going out and playing crap tunes I didn't even want to play.
DJ_Shockwav
but, being a good dj, you should like and know everything
like i have to spin for all ages and tastes... most of the time all in the same night
when you have a vast knowledge of all genres of music, you're that much better at picking out songs off the top of your head
when i started my radio broadcasting course, like the first week our instructor gave us a lecture on the kinds of music we will be playing on air... "you people are now in radio, you will like everything and anything that is capable of going out on the air... you will never make fun of the music you play on the air, save that for the coffee room."

anywho, thats just my little tidbit of info

I started DJing on my highschool's radio station last year, and it was hella fun.

I had to play all different genres of course (top40, rock, hiphop..), but I did manage to squeeze in alotta trance, so it made it all better :). That's mostly b/c there were alotta different Djs who I rotated with.. and i was one of few who played any dance music, so the genre plays were fairly balanced out. It was awesome that other people happened to like the trance i played too :)

DJ_Shockwav made a very good point with the "you will like everything and anything that is capable of going out on the air..." because it's true.. when you are infront of an audience w/some who only want thier kinda music- you better start learning about thier music & getting into it as well. Unfortunately you can NOT expect them all to like your fav music (trance, in this case) because some will just be too ignorant/judgemental to get into it... and that can create a bad mood amongst crowds like that.

Im still joining the radio again this year... i really enjoyed it & learned a few things 'bout playin' for a more mainstream audience, but i'll damn well continue to play my trance mixes!

Thanks guys!! One (or the most) important thing about DJing is to know how to move the people. That thing is really important for your boss and , of course, for the dancefloor/radio-station-listen people. Honestly, i do that. But, 3 years ago, i feel a little "tick" in my mind who says "this thing can't satisfied me". "I can't feel the music i spin, and probably that will be bad for my Dj perfomance". Then i expand my horizonts and went to a radio station, and put my own TRANCE!!! radio show. Yeah!! But still the dancefloor is moving best with other kind of music. Grrrr....
Trance devil
NO:(
DJ_Shockwav
i do both, and the easiest of the two is being an on-air personality
i find that on the radio, you don't have to deal with the listener....
whereas when i dj at a dance or a wedding, i'm being constantly bombarded by people who want their song played, and it makes it a whole lot easier if i have a knoledge about the kinds of music that they want to hear... i nessecarily don't like it (as in listen to it when i don't have to) but i respect it

I spin what i like (trance & techno)... but sometimes i have to play stuff like hip hop and rock b/c not all ppl like trance.

Well it's really nice to see that you people have no artistic integrity whatsoever. If you're playing for the audience for which you have to spin tracks that you don't like yourself then you're definitely playing for the wrong reasons and for the wrong crowd.
virtual dj
OK!! The only reason for what i'm playing is : i love to play.
The money you can get could be a reason, but not for me.
I can't choose the crowd (if i can i choose one really electronic, of course). The people here is very ignorant. Maybe i was born in a wrong place!!!
A few times i said "STOP!!! THAT'S ENOUGH!! I WANT TO KILL EVERYBODY OR LEAVE PLAYING NOW!!!!" but my love for my work was bigger.
I'm really crazy, or not?
