Complexity of Modern Communication

sucks.
I thought about it the other day. Especially when keeping contact with girls the technological achievements seem to backfire. There you have all your possibilities to escape, hide, play games, just take the "direct" aspect of TALKING away. You see who's calling and can therefore filter. You can change that so you're an unknown caller, which however, makes you even more suspicious. Not to mention the goddamn ing SMS (:whip: ): The most pathetic yet used form of modern boy-girl interaction (at least in the first stages apparently).
Where's the GOOD OLD call from your ing home TELEPHONE. Where nobody knows who you are and mostly you even have to explicitly ASK for the person you wanna talk to. That took some guts, people. Remember that episode form The Wonder Years where Kevin sat next to the phone for hours, thinking about how to call Becky. What would he do nowadays? Leave her a message. Search for her nick on MSN? that . Good old days are over. Bring on the video-hologramm-phone

I know what you mean.
Also, people can't seem to be able to make any kind of decisions when talking to a mobile phone.
Back in the day, say you wanted to meet a friend, you called him/her and told him/her where to meet.
Nowadays it's something like this:
"-So where do you want to meet?"
"-I dunno. I'll call you in an hour."
A hour goes by.
"-Right, where are you?"
"-Oh, I'm at the other side of town, I can't meet you today."
Oh well... |

The new trend here is for girls to give guys their e-mail addresses when asked for phone numbers, and then just never reply. Isn't it great? They can flirt and pretend like they're interested in a person without ever suffering the awkwardness of having to say "no", or (heaven forbid) dealing with the mistake of giving that number out by actually answering the phone for a guy they didn't really like.
The more impersonal the medium of communication is, the less guts you need to have. |

Haha, yeah those were the good old days. When you ring your mate and his mum answers the phone and you say "Hello, is Fat Dave there??" and you think ", I called him fat to his mum!!".

Except that really doesn't cure anything... it won't make them reply or stop being bitches, it's just a petty way of getting back at them. But when you realize that their ty gutless personalities will result in them having their hearts broken repeatedly because they most likely can't keep a relationship more than 3 weeks, you realize that's probably all the punishment they need.
Now, girls who break up through e-mail or IM/SMS, now that's another story...
If it wasn't for e-mail, though, they might actually have to grow up. |

agreed, but then again i dont think you can blame technology...women have always had their ways of turning guys down, most women are simply not comfortable telling a guy straight to his face, "no" or "im not interested"...if the guy is so thick-headed that he can't figure out she isn't interested, he deserves that treatment. best is to ask straight away and bluntly "would you like to go out sometime" that way you'll know right away what the deal is instead of finding out the rude way. some hints:
if she says "uhm...i dont know...i'll see you around" or "uhm...im sooo busy these days!!"...she definitely doesn't think you're all that. |

SMS is my most hated form of communication, the medium is so impersonal and childlike, making it semingly impossible to show an form of emotion in your messages.
Im sure i have much more ranting to do here, but a Columbo movie is on TV and i have to prioritise. |

| Oh yeah i think Messaging services like IM and SMS make it a lot easier for those who dont have the balls to go up to girls/ boys and talk to them. I dont think this is a good thing. |

do people actually like have conversationt or talk about serious issues via sms?
i use it like when i'm bored but have to be quiet or can't talk really to send a message to my girl or a friend being like 'u around later' or ' im bored'
or maybe if i have time to write it out 'holy crap my boss just made some kid cry. call me later' |
