Glass Drill

hey guys where do you think I would be able to find someone with a glass drill in toronto. I need it to drill a hole in this kick-ass wine bottle I have so I can use the bottle as an incense holder. I tried the head shops but they all have glass blowers working for them in other places. Can anyone think of a place I could go and pay a fair sum to have a hole drilled in a bottle??

thanks.

well first of all u need a high speed drill. i can't remember the exact # of RPMs but i think it's a whole lot faster than ur heavy duty contractor drills. Other thing is the bit (of course) it has to be a very special material. Ok fine it's not special, it's what they use for ceramic as well: DIAMOND. A drill bit will cost u alot so the idea is get a professional to drill the damn hole for u. It's a whole lot cheaper specially if ur only drilling one or two holes. U don't wanna buy something so expensive just so u can drill 2 holes.

edit:

on the other hand look what i found!CLICK ME

Hey heres just a thought u might want to try an optical lab as i work for Carl Zeiss Canada and we have to drill into glass lenses all the time so obviously we have high speed drills for glass only that wont break them, its just an idea i hope this helps and good luck with your incense holder it sounds like a cool idea let me know how you make out, later

well execuse me then. i'm very sorry for my post. I was just explaining the process as it could have been (at least in my so humble and honest opinion) somewhat helpful as what are the tools being used to have such a process of drilling a hole in a glass bottle to occur successfully. If you found my post offensive in anway, feel free to email me or simply PM me :p

i dont know any of this from personal experience so some of the details might be off but here goes:

a lot of people that use BOTTLE TOKES to smoke hash use a glass bottle. what they do is they put a small pebble or a dime or a penny inside ( any other coin would be too big) they then proceed to spin it around very fast for a few seconds ( i dont know why but apparently it helps) they then gently but effectively wack the bottle against the inside of the shoe or ankle and then theres a hole there! its small and the bottle is intact.....I dont know if thats EXACTLY how its done, but ive seen it get done.

so if u cant get it done at a glasses lab, try a pothead!

Goodluck!

(once again, i dont know this from personal experience)

hehe yea I think that works most of the time with beer bottles but I don't want to risk ruining this perticular wine bottle. It's really pretty. Just for the future if you need to do that, a small round stone works well too;)

A camera repair store would have a glass drill? really?

you could also take it to OCAD, the ontario college of art and design, there are people there that can help you, they will drill you a hole for free. you can do anything like that there, plastic wood metal etc, and on tuesday nights kereoke at al's fish n chips in the food court across the street. i also dont think a camera store would have a glass drill. i could be wrong but any camera sotre ive been to never had one. the sold lenses and stuff, but a glass drill no.
