Blatant Marketing Questions for a new Club night…….

Ok, to make a long story short………Lived in MD, moved to London England, now back in MD.
I’m planning on starting/promoting my own night, however my plan for a new trance night in DC is now out of the question. Buzz and Glow have the market cornered.
So, it looks like it's going to have to be Baltimore.
Here’s my question. If I could promise you 2 – 3 superstar Dj’s a night,ie. JOOF and PVD, would people commute to Baltimore to attend this new monthly party?
The local crowds in Baltimore are too fickle, so I would have to rely almost solely on a travelling fan base.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

In Nyc and Dc we already have Joof, Pvd, Armin, Ferry, etc...
If you brought Dj's like Hardwick, Gitelman, or James Holden I would probably make the trip because they are a scarcity in the Nyc/Dc area.
Ps. I downloaded an old mix of yours Its awsome DJTrinity-Arriving-WWW.Trance-Mix.Com

| I will bring Dj's like you mentioned the idea is to run a night with 2-3 big Dj's plus the residents. I just don't want to have a Ferry show up and play for 4 hrs. I want JOOF for 2 and PVD for 2. I don't want my night to rely on one Dj. |

If your expecting PvD to play 2 hours, you have to be burnt - I think he plays 4 hours on a normal basis. At Arc, J00F usually plays 3 hours (In Sept he played 5 because Marco V didnt show). All Im trying to say is it will be awefully difficult to tell world famous DJ's that they have a time limit - I dont know if I would ever have the balls to tell PvD, "Listen, I need you to play 2 hours." I know you want your friends to play, but Im sorry to say, people will be coming to see PvD, Armin, Tiesto, J00F, whoever and not the residents. If you have PvD play for only 2 hours, trust me, PvD and the PvD whores wont be back. |

You guys are missing the point. In the UK these world famous DJ play 2 hour sets week in and week out. It's not about having my friends play that's the furthest thing from my mind.
For example: Here's a normal night at Godskitchen
Ferry Corsten
Fergie
Judge Jules
Jon O'Bir
That's what I want to bring to the area. Why would you want to limit yourself to one DJ! |

but they're in europe already, so they can do 2 hour sets on a normal basis and whet their fans' appetites. would it be worth it for DJs from europe to set aside one night on a tour just to play two hours? obviously here in ny we're spoiled by lengthy sets (except for oakenfold's 2 hours of rubbish in november); i don't know how it works in other areas in the country (say, boston's avalon because they close early at 2, so maybe the DJs play 2, 3 hours). it's a great idea, but they can pull it off in europe more easily, i think, because they can play there more often than here in the states. the key there is the week in week out. |

| I agree with trunks on this one, being that most of the DJs are from Europe its much easier for them to go play and leave and move on to the next stop. If there were more DJs in the states like Dinaire than this might be a prospective thing. |

OK, this thread is moving way away from what I intended it to be. The logistics’ of what I'm proposing is my business associate and my nightmare to worry about. We have the funding and a solution to get the Djs here.
This is just a marketing survey. If we could bring it, would it interest you? |

Its hard to say whether people in the states would appreciate more DJs with shorter sets... being that "we've been spoiled" with the longer ones, who knows.
First, lets think of time slots - my opinion is open up the club at maybe 11PM and close at appr. 9AM. Now you can arrange decent time slots for everyone 11PM - 1AM [Resident], 1AM - 4AM [DJ], 4AM - 7AM [DJ], 7AM - 9AM [Resident]. Or you can shift it up an hour from 10PM - 8AM, whatever, if you can pull that off, than that might be something worth seeing. Honestly, 2 hours isnt enough for any big name DJ. |
