What do people think about Long Island(if you ever heard of it)

I go to a SUNY school in NY. People in the town of that school are not from LI so they make fun of LI kids all the time. I don't care and I am cool with townies that LI kids call the people who live in the town of the college.

Examples
-rich asses
-High class girls, spike haired guys<--I got asked if i was from LI because I had this hair style going into a bar in my college town.
-All girls from LI wear sweat pants and cry to their mommies and daddies to fill up their atm. Etc...

I am from LI and need to see what TA's point of view is on thie Island that is long.

No one say Strong island because that just sounds gay whoever invented that word!!!:whip:

I assume you go to SUNY Binghamton from your location.... People at SUNY Buffalo thought of LIers the exact same way, rich whiney skanky JAPs (Jewish American Princesses, not Japanese :P), thick accents, and sleazebag guys wearing muscle shirts driving Camaros... honestly I didn't even know that there was a stereotype for LIers until I went to school upstate. I don't really know many people at all who fit any of these stereotypes (with the exception of the accents :D), and most of the LI kids I met at school were awesome people.

i generally think of LI as rich and having lots of traffic. i find that people from LI tend to think it is the center of the world and dont leave as readily as people from other places. oddly they also seem to think LI is a part of NYC. most people i know from there come from money and most of them are jewish. they tend to be well groomed and dress nice. lots of them are really super nice people.

stereotypes

i am also from long island. this stereotype is so annoying, but i hear it a lot as well. although a couple of my friends can be like that, but not to that extreme. i think it also depends what part of long island you are from, for example- north shore vs. south shore and all that other junk.

i am curious what other TAs think of those people from long island.

bleh, we had a good but not an overwhelming number of those at my high school.

good thing most of those time lived in the souther part of the town, therefore they went to Newton SOUTH... which is known for its number of posers and preppies.

good thing i knew how to ignore them.

I knew some would say the ice tea:D What I have been relizing the older you get I am 21 LI is a mad expensive place to live but great place. I don't take my parents for grated that they can afford to live here. When I get older I would not mind living on LI but I will need a 60k + job. Some places in Bing have houses in my college town are just as nice as ones in LI but the cost of living is much cheaper.

i don't typically use or agree with stereotypes, but i'd have to say the stereotype about kids from LI is 95% true! i used to live in Westchester County and i knew many people from LI, and sadly, the majority of them fit the stereotype perfectly. but at the same time, i also know a few people from LI that aren't your stereotypical LI rich-kid.

i dunno, i might be taking it personally... i grew up in one of the poorer cities in Westchester, lol.

LI does have some amazingly nice houses, as does Westchester County... but FFS, you have to be a ing millionaire to live comfortably in that area. apartments and houses are soooo much more affordable in wisconsin, lol!
