It's true, Mazda was lying about the output ratings of their car, dyno's consistently proved it had no more than 190 @whp which meant it had a lot of drivetrain loss or they were lying. Anyway's, if/when Mazda releases their turbocharged RX-8 model should prove interesting. @ thadevil mmm... a ricer's dream lmfao. do you got nike vinyl's on it too you tosser? |

| You pathetic people always celebrating the rotary engine, frankly it gets more props than it deserves. Only recommend them to ppl with more money than they know what do with, auto mechanics who like to repair cars or ppl with close friends as auto mechanics or ppl who know what they are doing. Most never fall into these categories then again, I have a friend who has an rx-7 and the amount of times that I have been asked to work on that pile of trash is so high. |

They recalled it true, but its because they said it had 240ish and it was makin 220ish. It was like a 10 hp deficit. So get ur straight homes. :haha: |

As an 89 Pontiac Station Wagon driver, I can say Hooah, more power to ya! However, I would put the old wagon head on against you in a test of strength! So? So what and Flow as you Go!

Ricers??
That's such a North American word. Myy cousin from Canada uses that world a lot.
In Australia we call them "hoons"
hoon = someone who speeds, thinks they are hot stuff because of
their car |

sleek very sleek car.
hows the handling on the rx-8 dizzy? |
the handling is what i love the most about the car performance-wise. the engine is front-mid so it distributes the weight real well, which i'm sure really helps with the great handling :eyes:

the automatic's come 190, the 6 speed's come 238 according to mazda. supposedly for rx-8's the automatic is actually cheaper than the 6 speed (which is ass-backwards), but to make up for that difference the automatic's come a little more stripped than the 6 speeds. supposedly the automatics dont have independent rear wheel suspension, little less hp, no 18" wheels, etc etc. i didnt know that till i read up a little more on it the other day, now i'm definately glad i got the 6 spd even though i have to deal with atlanta traffic.
i'd imagine 238 is rated at the flywheel, i'm not sure what it is to the rear wheels. the car's real light (despite it being a "4-door") so it doesnt take much.

the rx-7 had twinturbos, that can be alot of punishment for any engine. i wont start worrying about problems until the 50,000 mile warranty is up. plus if your friend's rx-7 was heavily modded that could've been apart of the reason too. as i learned with my mustang you can only modify a car to a certain point and have it still be street-friendly, once you cross that line there's no turning back. i remember back when i used to run my saleen, there were people w/rx-7's who swore by rotary engines. you have to care for them a little differently than a regular engine too so maybe he wasnt doing what he was supposed to?
thanks to everyone with the compliments :) |

I learned the hard way about over modifying a car when the piston on my '93 Eclipse GSX blew out of the block and hit my hood. It was the saddest time of my life.
Yeah, modfiying a car is one thing, but over doing it is just plain dumb. I learn that from experience.
Congrat on the ride man, I love the RX series from Mazda. Would like to test drive the turbo edition of the RX8 when/if it comes out.

Funny you bring in the Eclipse GSX hahaha, before my wife bought her 1997 BMW M3 she wanted a 96-98 Eclipse GSX, so we test drove one and it had a blown turbo, so while im driving it hes like "naw man, the turbo is ok, its prolly something cheap to fix", im like "who you trying to fool, im not new to this, maybe you can fool my wife but not me, jackass" so we went back and their own mechanic checked it out and said in exact same words "yea, the turbo is blown, any fool could see that", we laugh and me and my wife left. |

i got that same routine last year when me and my fiance were looking at 4th gen supras. we were checking out this 15th anniversary supra that was nice as hell but they were asking way too much, like $10k more than what it was worth. he was giving me the run around saying well it has "this and that" and it's limited edition only a few like this were made. bull... ALL 97 supras are "limited edition 15th ann." the 97's do have some additions over the 96 and previous but everything he was pointing out on the car was aftermarket, blatantly aftermarket. and he was trying to pass it off as to why this car is so special but as we all know doesnt mean anything when its at a dealership. i think its funny when used car salesmen start lying their ass off not knowing that you know more than they ever will about the car. :haha: |

Yeah, my friends & I are avid Eclipse buffs. Mid design body styles of the Eclipse (94-99) we great looking cars, but they slacked off of the engine as usual. The turbos were poorly sealed and usually would crack near the blow seams within 50,000 miles. The last best design they made for the Eclipse was the 93 GSX. Great framework, suspension, and the turbo was a monster stocked 12 lb boost. It was only restricted to 12 lb from a regulator plug that you can remove to increase the boost to it 17 lb limit, and that's stock.
No matter what you get, a turbo will beat the engine harder and put more wear then usual. I still have my Eclipse, but it's in an engine overhaul right now. Whole new block with titanium pistons and crankshaft. Can't wait to get her back. |
