TB303 Overdrive

I just heard this great tune with the Warp Brothers, called Blast the Speakers. It has a crazy TB sound in it, you can hear a clip of it here:
Blast the Speakers clip
I know that the sound is a Square waveform with HEAVY overdrive, but that's as far as I can hear. I have Audiorealism bassline and Tau Bassline, I must be able to recreate this sound with either one of them and some overdrive. I don't have any special overdrive plugins, other than the standard cubase and fruity overdrive. Should I get one?
Anybody wanna give me a hand with this? Who's up for the challenge? :D |

ABL is probably the best tool for this you can get without buying a real 303...
It's a pretty common 303-sound though.
Just pour the overdrive and distorsion over your squares and that should get you pretty close (remember ABL has some fx built in). Also keep cutoff and resonance relatively high.
For a more precise guide I think you'll have to wait 'til someone more experienced replies :) |

| I don't know, to me, it sounds like the cutoff is quite low and the resonance high. |

Using ABL
Tune - 6 o'clcok
Cutoff - 8 o'clock
Res - Full
EnvMod - 9 o'clock

Why, did those settings work? No, I'm quite far from being dead on, I just have a thing for 303s and acid. It's not exactly the same but it came up close with me. You need to have the right distortion unit to get it right on, and unfortunately I don't know what they used to get that sound. A lot of producers just use the distortion fx on their mixing desk. D-Pole, by Waldorf is supposed to have a really good distortion effect on it as well. |

OOh oooh, just found a really nice setting for ABL. only got it 2 days ago so still messing around with it.
Tune, 7
cutoff, 7-9 (for squeeking yeah)
res, 5
env mod, 9:30
decay, 5
drive, 5
distort, 5
Now, hope you're running Cubase, or at least have QuadraFuzz.
Quadrafuzz settings:
Preset Guitar, "heat the seat". Now turn down the ABL cahnnel cos it goes WAYYY passed o dB.
This patch setting only works well with 303 lead patterns though, so things like what you posted, New Order's Confusion, Josh Wink's Higher state of Consciousness, etc.
Have Fun.

Just got a hold of the demo of "tube" by antares. Full drive tube distortion and you get that EXACT sound. |

Sorry for bumping this thread but, I just used Antares Tube over the Abl bassline(3O3) and Cheggy is right, you do get this sound.
Just bumping for anyone interested cos I noticed cheggys post was an edit and might have not been seen. |
