There are a few programs that will let you record your line in. ( or what you want ).
I use the creative recorder ( you've got to have a creative soundcard )
You can also use POLDERBIT but i couldnt find it on the internet so you have got to search it yourself
 |

Go to http://us.creative.com/support/ and select there your soundcard ( be sure what kind of card it is !! )
Then you see some thing to download ( drivers, applications etc. )
Hopefully this will help!
Have a nice newyearparty

if your soundcard was made after 1990 it probably has an INPUT hole, looks like you should be able to plug headphones into it. Just go to radio shack and pick up a stereo splitter, 2 RCA plugs on one end, and the skinny 'headphone' style plug on the other end, also called a 'Y' adapter. stick that into your INPUT of the soundcard...
after this, there's a couple ways to go.. i use a Y splitter at my mixer to seperate the output plugs (my mixer only has one set of master outs) one pair of red/white go to my amp/speakers, the other pair off of the 'y' adapter (attached to my mixer) go to the 'Y' adapter that's plugged into my computer
this way you can seperately control the volume of your speakers while also keeping a static level of signal into the computer. Too little signal, sounds weak, too much and it clips and sounds like crap.
I use Goldwave for my recordings, it works with any soundcard, i've used it for years, so i'm not really sure what else is out there, i've never had any need to switch.
hope this helps,

| hrm... still haven't figured it out. the way i have it now, i have an rca cable from my mixer's master-out into an extra speaker hole that i have in my soundblaster audigy. also attached to the sound card is a 4.1 boston speaker set. so i dont really have an amp, cuz the sound is going from my mixer through my soundcard to my computer speakers. i was just wondering if there is a program which can record my mixes live. i tried downloading the creative software but it woudln't update for me. the only thing it let me download was some creative mediasource. hopefully there's another method i can use to record. let me know! |

Goldwave (www.goldwave.com i think) will record it all for you. the cable that goes from the mixer to the soundcard should be plugged into an INPUT or even MIC hole, speaker will prob not work .. a guy i work with says he uses Soundforge for recording
hope that helps! |

Hey,
First of all you need to get yourself a monitor of some sort coming from your mixing board and not use your PC speakers.
The problem is that you have to use the line in on your soundcard (usually the blue one if they are color coded). You won't be able to use your line in and line out at the same time or you'll get feedback.
I use SOUNDFORDGE for recording, but there are tons of software you can use. I am gonna warn you Soundforge is not very user friendly but has really powerful editting tools. You can take out any pops or clicks that might be on vinyl and really clean up your mix.
You will need a Y adpater to merge you 2 RCA into a 1/8 jack on on soundcard, as mention before in this thread.
Once you everything set up, go to your volume control on your task bar, double click then go options, then properties.
Then select the recording button or tab (also here you should see your soundcard listed, usually as mixing device or something like that).
After selecting recording, then check the line in box, this enables the input device to receive the signal from you mixing board.
I recommend always using line in for recording, you can try to the mic line but will probably get feedback.
Open up the software you are going to use and your on your way.
I know it sounds compilated at first but it doesn't take long to figure it out.
If you don't have any recording software, I would go to KAZAA lots of free stuff there, just scan it before you install. It could be a Virus and not the software your want.
Good luck, I hope I helped you some.

| Computer speaker works fine huh! i use computer speakers too and it sounds great. If you want better recording sound quality get an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 soundcard and a good mixer and you'll get excellent sounds :D |

someone mentioned that you can't use both line in and line out jacks at the same time. This is my problem..
i'm using :
1)monitors connected to my mixer
2)2 turntables, connected to (duh) mixer
3)Traktor software, connected from the green jack(1 output) and black jack(2nd output) on my soundcard, into my mixer.
All i'm trying to do is record on my pc, mixing with 4 channels (2 TTs and the 2 traktor outputs). I've tried plugging from my mixer's TAPE output into the soundcard's BLUE LINE-IN jack, but it doesnt make sense to me.
Any suggestions?? |
