What a stupid statement.
Personally, I think it will stay quite similar to now, where top DJ's use a combination of several technologies available to them. WHY should DJ's be restricted to one type of medium when they can utilise all the tools available to them...
I mean these days anyone with an inch of musical talent can go out, buy a set of decks and master them relatively quickly, it takes a bit more for them to stand out from the crowd. Take James Zabelia as an example, although I'm sure he wont be your cup of tea, you must appreciate his talent using a combination of technologies. |

4000 cd singles here, all trance. anyway, RC companies will find pressing cds cheaper.
as for autobeat matchers, a) theyre , b) that dosent turn the bass, mid, treb knobs does it? and it dosent bring in the tune at the right time or on the main kick beat.
cds are a positive move, ive known that this was going to happen for years, hence why ive been on cds for 3 years... so many more advantages, and no disadvantages |

I agree with Carl. DJs should not be restricted to just vinyl just because it looks "cool" or is an "artform". DJs, be definition, keep the beat bumping while seemlessly mixing one song into another. What matters should be what comes out of the speaker rather than the medium the DJ chooses to spin.
If, say for example, you had one dj who spun completely from vinyl and could beatmatch ok but had horrible track selection and bad transitioning skills and another dj who spun completely from cd or used final scratch and was better than the first dj....who would you like to hear?
Just because vinyl may "look cool" doesn't mean people should dog the other mediums available to a dj. "Looking cool" is relative to the times we are in and is of course subjective. In 5, 10, 20 years vinyl may not look cool anymore depending on the trends of those times. |

| i like vinyl because of the analog sound the warm fat analog sound... u cant in beat that.. no matter how much cd players simualte turntables, the cold digital sound of cds will never beat vinyl.. plus like someone mentioned, yeah there are all different programs for art nowadays but oil, canvas painting still exist.. u know why ? cuz thats the dope .. long live turntables !!! :p |

| Lots of good points made here, to be honest though i'm not one too be bothered by all of them as i think a DJ should do whatever he feels is right. For example, using final scratch doesnt appeal to me so i'll stick to vinyl and cd's for now, however if a DJ feels its the right thing for him to use final scratch then i'd support him 100%, simply because its upto the individual. I think that its wrong for people to say that vinyl is the only true method, or from the other angle that finalscratch is the future and if you dont change you'll get left behind etc... It should be upto the individual, as long as they stick to what they feel is right surely there shouldnt be any questions raised. Happy New Year, Tom :) |

what a stupid statement, accept the fact that as long as the music and mixing is good that dj's should and do use any tech means available to them, you are not exactly old skool to yearn for the days before cds and other equipment like final scratch and software |

| man vinyl has been around longer than anything man. Its music's daddy. If vinyl dies then its gonna be a long sruggling fight. Its not just gonna poof into thin air. But I think vinyl is gonna be around in the future. People in clubs will start to notice the difference between a vinyl dj and a cd dj. The only reason y cd dj's are increasing in #'s is cuz, like sum1 said b4, music is more accessible. U get more and more amatuers into the scene. Hopefully no more Dj Sammy's breakthrough and make our scene look even more retardedly cliche'd. Plus it takes less skill. So all the social rejects and losers are finding a new hobbie to get thier name out and sanctify watever is left in thier boring life. Now and days i see too many dj's for the fame. They could care less about the music and the art behind it. Hopefuly there are dedicated cd dj's out there, cuz i aint seeing any decent ones in my area. |

| Its pretty simple, vinyl has a more 'romantic' feel to it, so i dont think it will die out, its like using digital cameras vs film cameras, its quality will eventually reach films, but it doesnt have that film feel, it eventually becomes more robotic and less human. In the future maybe djs will use a combo of everything more equally, cds, vinyl, live pa, vocals, final scratch, who knows the reach is endless. |

Poor comparison, apples and oranges buddy. The outcome of those two mediums is completely different, one is a painting on a canvas, the other is a digital picture on a computer.
CD and Vinyl, they're a medium to store music, and when played, the outcome is the same, you hear music. Without you WATCHING the DJ, you can't tell if they're using CD or Vinyl. I'm quite sure I can tell the difference between a computer with a digital image and canvas with paint on it. |
