Ok folks, it's that time of year when you get the best of and all that crap, so I figured I was currious to find out what you guys have been playing this year.
If you have one or two tracks that you have played more than any other what are they?
Also if you have one or two tracks that you hate more than any other what are they?
And your reasons for this being so.
Only rules I would lay down before the flame fest starts is that the records have to be from this year and that we respect eachothers tastes and realise that we don't all think the same.
_______________________________________________________________
Nem's most HAMMERED!
DK - Murder was the bass (Reworked)
This may not be trance but it has rocked every dancefloor I have played it for without fail. It's just great watching total madness take place.
DJ Marky and Leroy - Magical Sunset
Complete and utter hands in the air magic in my opinion (If not a bit cheesy ;) ), which has not yet seen full release to my knowledge. Full on quality Dutch trance. It's just great when you whack on this track and see hands and people going mad for the breakdown.
_______________________________________________________________
Nem's most HATED!
Motorcycle - As the rush comes (Gabriel and Dresden Mix)
I realise that this one will go against general opinion
but I jus think that this track has recieved way too much hype for what it is. The G & D thing is not my sound anyways... way to progressive for my liking and I even question if it's trance in my book other than the production methods used. I'm not big on vocals either. The Armin mix is actually really good and in my opinion should be given more credit.
Ferry Corsten - Rock your, body rock
I can see why Ferry made this track as he is trying to get away from that typical well produced dutch trance sound which is being done to death at the moment. I just don't like this track. The melody is just pants quite frankly even if it is a little catchy. Still a big fan of Ferry's just not this one.

So folks...
Looking forward to see what you have to say on the subject. Meanwhile have a great new year!!!
Cheers

Most liked:
Mash up kids- take me to the clouds above-
Been hammering this since i got a copy back in the summer- samples U2 and whitney houston and is getting an 'official' release (with a ty covered vocal) in a few weeks. I have been selling copies of this bootleg for £40 on ebay-its that sought after. (yeah its funky house- suck my balls :p)
Armin Van Buuren (Feat. Justine Suissa) -Burned With Desire [Rising Star Vocal]
Proper euphoric vocal trance- only floating about on white at the mo- but what a tune- one of my faves of the year-although not played it out yet- this may change in a few days
MOst hated:
Ferry corsten- rock your body rock
SOunds like it samples (badly) Mr Oizo and really winds me up- cant stand it for some reason. Never been a big fan of big distorted lines in tunes
Too many hated tunes of this year to list- not a good year for quality tunage |

Hammered:
Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (sweeping strings AND armin mixes)
Yeah, it's hyped. I'll even say it's OVER hyped. But, wow, I just love this song, and can't get sick of it!
Andain - Beautiful things
Same story, don't care about the hype, just love this song!
Hiver and Hammer - 5 Million Miles(Different Gear mix)
blows the hell out of people!
Hated:
Gotta agree with Ferry Corsten Rock your Body Rock, what a weak track. I also didn't like Gouryella - Ligaya (i think that came out this year), or Paul Van Dyk - Nothing but you. Just, typical cookie cutter trance. In fact, there were a ton of weak ass songs that were supposed to be anthems that I just thought were so so this year, for example half the stuff on Tiesto - Nyana |

OK.. this is a sweet thread.. Nice one Nem. ;)
As for my Hammered and Hated:
Hammered:
Joop - Act of God (Hard Trance Edit)
Just one of the more harder tracks that really gets me goin.. Just love it.
DJ Lee - Ready or Not
Absolutely love this track... Can't really explain why.. It just gets to me and gets me absolutely Pumped.
Dutch - My Time (Steve Murano Remix)
Such a wicked party track.. How can you not bob your head to this beat? :D
Hated:
Basic Dawn - Pure Thrust (Nu-Nrg Remix)
I really hate this song.. I think it was poorly made, Nu-Nrg have done some great remixes in there time, but this one, I can't stand listening to it, not to mention I heard it in almost every mix I listened to.
Benni Benassi - Satisfaction (Isak Original)
Ya, ok, I own it.. But it was prolly the worst record purchase I have ever made... I don't mind the Steve Murano Remix, but the Original is utter bollacks..
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE TRACK THIS YEAR:
Marcel Woods - Time Is Running Out :eyes:
Which I am still trying to find and get my hands on... :( |

ok my most hammered..hmm hard to say but i have definitely spun these a lot in 2003!!!
Riddler & Headcrusher-Chimera : in my opinion, the sickest, baddest song to come out last year. (ooo it's now 2004!)love my autographed copy. (brag brag)
Tomcraft- Brainwashed (dj choose pres. that mucho mix) awesome song, even if dj choose does lack originality (you were so right bout that, nem) i also like the Azure rmx.
dave joy- third pleasure : My autographed copy (brag brag) got a lot of play time on my tables. so pretty and hard at the same time.
Hated:
Hypetraxx Vs Sabrina Sedlur - "Ich Bin So" wow...what the hell was overdose thinking. first off i'm not a big fan of the hypetraxx vocal guy .. but you add some female german rap and BAM it's even worse. not to mention the song itself has nothing going for it.
i'm sure i have more hateds...but i quickly get them out of my mind, so i dont' really remember. besides i should go to bed, huh, it being 5 am. |

just a question...
is that DJ Chus, as in Chus L. Esteban of Chus & Ceballos,
Joeski & DJ Chus, etc? or is it some guy tryin to rip off Chus's
style (hence the spelling)? because "mucho drums" is a signature
title Chus uses for his remixes/remixes with Ceballos. if it is
some guy trying to bank off Chus, cool, but if it is the actual
Chus, why do you say he has little originality? he is one of the
best tribal producers i've seen. either way, to each his own,
happy 2004 :)

Caned:
Oliver Lieb pres. Smoked - Metropolis (Midtone Mix)
just loved this record. dunno, but not many people seemed to pay
attention to it.
PQM - You Are Sleeping (PQM meets Luke Chable Vocal Pass)
loved the original, luke did an amazing job remixing this bomb.
Sasha - Cloud Cuckoo (Luke Chable Remix)
again, the aussie at work. he's been amazing this year, yet another
track i feel ddint get its deserved recognition.
James Talk - Eggs Are Cute (James Talk's Re-Percussion Mix)
just fell in love with this thing from the moment i heard it.
Darren Emerson - H2O
yet another underrated track IMO. always did the trick as an opener,
after a nice acapella.
John Creamer & Stephane K - Forget the World
am guilty of caning this baby a lil. the vocals really hype everyone
up around here ;)
couple others....

Hated:
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction
ugh. just plain ick. will admit i found it interesting the first time
i heard it, but then it just got played to death and it wasn't that
good to begin with.
Tomcraft - Loneliness
hated this from day 1. dont remember if it was released in 2003 or not,
either way, dont understand what anyone saw in it. there were a couple
decent mixes though, still, nothing worth it at all IMO.
to be positive, ill keep it at only 2 :p |

Hey Inertia,
In answer to your question, they are not the same person. DJ Choose and DJ Chus are totally different people with very different styles.
The DJ Choose that DKNYLady is talking about is the resident DJ at one of Denmanrks premier Trance clubs (Club Gorgeous in Copenhagen). He is also linked to the guys in Tukan (who are also Danish).
The point the lady is making is that while the sound that DJ Choose has is awesome and works really well on the dancefloor and the sound is original in itself, the variation between his own records is minimal.
You can check out any of these productions and see for yourself. :)
DJ Choose presents that Mucho - Release Me
DJ Choose presents that Mucho - Elevatorazz
Dutch Courage (That Mucho Remix) - The World
Michael Splint pres. Eruption - I feel free (DJ Choose and F's That Mucho Remix)
Tomcraft- Brainwashed (dj choose pres. that mucho mix)
If you give them a listen you will notice that there is little originallity in the sound even if it does sound pretty cool.
Cheers
Nem
HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!!!! |

haha, i definitely know how to spell dj choose correctly, release me was one of my favorite songs when it came out and now so is his mix of brainwashed..
couldn't have explained it better nem, hehe you were the one to give me the titles of their other songs besides release me :) |

Most hammered
Goldenscan - Of our times
Nice buildup, little cheesy, but it's the vibe that counts
Hate
Hmm, gotta think about it, traffic maybe. Pretty basic track, not original (agreed, it's stated on the vinyl that the "sample" is lifted from an older track, but still, the main melody is nothing more than 2 notes). Yet, a massive amount of people love it to death. Tiesto's name will have to do a lot with it...
BTW Marcky and Leeroy are friends of mine (btw, it's Marcky with a c, and they're Belgian), I think Magic Sunset is going to be released soon. I've heard the promo of their new one, and don't want to make you impatient, but what I heard is good, very very good. Can't tell you more though, or they'll kill me :D |
|

| Inertia |
great, ill give those a listen guys...
still seems wierd to me that he'd pick the name "Choose" and then use
the word "Mucho" (spanish for much/a lot) in his productions when Chus
has been doing that for a long while. ah well, guess you learn something
new every day.... |

Hey DJ Thy,
TUNAGE!!!!!!!!!!
You can pass on my compliments to them on an amazing piece of trance.
The effect this had on people in sets I was playing at the end of summer was insane (I think it was round then anyways ;) ). Also had a lot of people asking me what it was but was unable to tell them for a long time as I had no clue what it was.
Apologies about the Dutch/Belgian confusion... you can blame that on Tony Burt for giving me the wrong information :D.
Putting it differently, I have seen people loose their ing minds when the breakdown kicks in. It feels great being the DJ that plays a track like that, but having made it must feel a hell of a lot better.
I actually played it again last night in my New years set at the Boom Boom Rooms, equally good response.
If their follow up is anything like this tell them that they can count on me for dancefloor support.
Cheers
Nem
PS
If you could twist their arms to forward me an advance copy of their new one it wouldn't be a bad thing. ;) |
