Who's gonna sign him? Great pitcher, but too high dollar and on the downhill slide. Batting, and not his pitching, saved him this year.

| He's already said he wants to be finish out his career closer to home, which is somewhere in southern california I believe. The Padres already passed on him, the Giants can't afford him, the Dbacks are in saving mode, and I haven't heard any interest from the Dodgers yet. I'm thinking probably the St Louis Cardinals since they've probably got the money and are a winning team. He's going to have to lower his demands both in terms of money and years if he wants more choices. |

The cardinals cant avoid him under most any circumstances. Also I wonder if I''m the only one here who thinkgs gred maddux has been a pretty overrated for much of his career. |

| heh I think you just might be the only one. I've always appreciated the way he pitches with so much accuracy as opposed to a lot pitchers nowadays relying on power and movement. I hope he significantly lowers his demands and comes to the Giants. |

If by accuaracy you mean having a much bigger strike zone than almost any other pitcher than sure. He's one of the biggest arguments for questec, but thats another matter entirely. |

| lol I guess you could say that but I haven't really noticed that. But if that's the case I'd say he's earned it, despite the unfairness of it all. Doesn't look like my Giants are going to get him since we just signed Brett Tomko. |

Hmmm ... who else are Braves gonna unload? Castilla? What a great baseball club, now completely FALLING APART! I guess there will not be a 13 season division wins streak ... what a shame ... so many memories ... so few to NONE World Series wins ... precious. At least they had a great 2003 season that was completely different from all other streaking seasons. Oh well, I'll always be a Braves fan ... I cant forget all the memories. Funny to note that Braves went from dead last in 1990 to first overall in 1991, when Soviet Union collapsed, and now their legacy is over, too.
I'd say Maddux will sign with Cubbies (go to hell!) or Padres. |

| Cubs need Maddux now. Especially since Houston signed Rodger Clemens. Cubs have a great starting rotation but Maddux would seal it as the best in the league. It would also be nice if the Cubbies picked up Pudge as well. Sorry this is all coming from a Cubs fan. Thats the only baseball I care about. |

| If you're truely a fan of baseball you should know that the game is more than hitting home runs and throwing 98mph fast balls. I will alway be a Maddux fan no matter who he plays for, because he represents all that is good in the game. Sure he's near the end of his career, but he's been a pleasure to watch. He's the type of player who i can identify, because he uses head and heart to overcome any physical short comings. I'd take maddux over head hunting, arrogant a-holes like pedro any day. Maybe he does enjoy a larger strike zone, but he's earned it by demonstrating good control for his entire career. BTW, "overated" pitchers don't just happen to win 13 Gold Gloves and 4 Cy Young Awards by chance. |

Hmm I agree with you on some issues but not others.
1)You are right about pitchers who use there heads should get love, but I think Jamie Moyer is a much better example of that because....
2)I don't belive any hitters or pitchers should benifit from a bigger or smaller strike zone than any other player, for me some kid who just came up from double a to fill a spot on the bench due to injury should get the same zone as a future hall of famer. Furthermore I think that much of Maddux's succes over the last couple years of his career are influenced greatly by that. His era as well as walks would be much higher if his game was called the same as everyone elses.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's not a good pitcher, and he probably deserves all 13 gold gloves. But as I outlined in point 2 he wouldnt have the same numbers and maybe the cy youngs if his game was called correctly. |

That whole strike zone thing is greatly exaggerated. Rightly or wrongly umps tend to give close calls to any pitcher the who has good control and throws near the strike zone. Maddux is a master of borderline pitches with movement, he actually wants them to hit the ball, but not make good contact, either resulting in a foul tip strike or a ground ball out. You should know as pitcher your job is to get the hitter to swing at pitches bourderline pitches, expanding the strike zone.
The way umps call the game today if anything has hurt Maddux. The strike zone is ridiculously small, they don't call the high strike or the inside corner. For pitchers who cant over power a hitter and rely on corners a small strike zone can be devistating. The strike zone favors hitters not pitchers this whay there are so many homeruns in the game today. |
