View this Thread in Original format
Nemesis44
Hey folks,

Here's a little track that I wrote using my new FM7 (amongst other things).

When I Dream of Angels

8.05 Mins
140BPM
96kbps
5.5MB

Any advice or feedback is always greatly appreciated.

Kind regards and happy new year to you all :D

Hey man thats great! Nice sounding synth!
Nice composition and syncopated rythms always good!
At 3:44 when you have that massive break the bass line needs to fade immediately (like you did at the 5 minute mark)...you have it sticking around a little too long IMO. And I'm not too keen on that whole build thereafter. I love the 6 note melody there...just needs something else and Im not sure what. I think probably that the additional chords coming in at 6:01 should maybe come in then or maybe introduce a counter melody.
But I like it Nem!! :gsmile: :toocool:

P.S. Would you mind telling me what you use for sequencing software and what hardware you might be using? :eyes:

Hey Digital Aura,

Thanks for listening.
I know what you are saying with the main bit needing something new such as a counter melody or strings etc. Been thinking that but just didn't get any inspiration to do it so I figured I would put the track down for a while until I get the urge.

I will however test to see what it sounds like with the bassline thingy at 3:44

The stuff I use is all in Fruity Loops. I do have a midi keyboard plugged in but no real hardware. I use two VSTs which are Z3TA+ and the FM7 and that's about it.

Thanks

good to know...i thought FL was a closed system and didnt accept VSTs but...im all confused about all these dang progs...hehehe

edit: just checked CHEGGY's post from my other thread and he DID in fact tell me FL accepts plugins but NOT hardware. CLARITY!
hey cheggy
Hey, sounding nice. The intro sounds good and the melody is cool too. Nicely put together. It goes on for a bit though without much variation.

I agree... your instruments are great, but the melody is a bit too invariably for my tastes. I think if you bring up those sounds you start at 6:00 on, though, and bring them in earlier, though, you'd have a pretty nice song.

Hey DA,
I hate to confuse you even more but FL also has midi capabilities and does accept hardware in that sense.

Cheers

I think this track could do with cutting/rearranging some parts... the intro goes on for over 2 minutes with pretty much nothing to keep me interested.

The lead is pretty damn good though.

It's a shame we only get a 96kbps version though as it sounds so muffled throughout :(

Hey Thanks Mystery,

Yeah, I have felt that the intro probably needs to be shortened and did initially intend to do this. It is on my list of things to do with the track along with the other stuff mentioned earlier.

Thanks for listening.

You don't need to shorten it, just make it more interesting. Little percussion rolls, some crashed on the 1st down beat, build the percussion intensity gradually so that the energy levels keep building to the breadown. That's how it should be in my opinion.
