midi controllers/synth

Hi, i hope this question hasnt been answered before if so i apologize, but are they any keyboards that are midi controllers and have the ability to be a standalone synthesizer keyboard? And if so, what kind are there?

I've had some fun in Fruitloops loading in midi's and adding junk with it, but its a tad tedious to compose and click in all the notes, and i kinda want to use Reason, but there doesnt seem like there is much to do without a midi controller.

So are there any synths/midi controllers out there?

Do you think i should just stick with a midi controller and not get a synth?

Also, does anyone have a Virus C and is it any good?
hey cheggy
Yes
Its up to you
Yes, I do
Yes

Most synths are capable of transimitting midi data along with sysex. If you want to get a VA with keys and dials, you are gonna be coughing up quite a bit of dough. Something like the Virus KC isn't cheap.

the virus C and KC only differed by about 400 when i looked: http://www.zzounds.com/prodsearch?f...&q=access+virus

is the Virus KC liked a standalone synth and a midi controller then?
hey cheggy
yes

Any hardware synth with sounds on the market can be used as a controller. Unless it's a rack version, that dosn't come with a keyboard..

And about viruc c.. Let me tell you that take top 10 trance songs and I bet you the synth that was used in most of them was viruc c.
I use to have a lot of hardware synths, but honestly one viruc c and cubase sx is all I need..

I'm sorry to come in the middle of this thread but I had a question to ask as well. I have a Novation KS4 keyboard(not sure if any of you are familiar with it) and I am interested in purchasing Reason 2.5. My question(given the situation) Can I use the Novation KS4 with reason for MIDI and the built in synth sounds? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Also. Do I need any type of interface to make this possible? I need to know what else I need before I purchase.

yes, you'll be able to use the KS4 as a midi controller for reason. however you won't be able to use it as a synth because reason doesn't support external devices/vst's.

With Reason Do you think I would even need a synth? I can still take back my novation, would it be wise to return it and purchase a small MIDI controller with reason since I can't use the built in synth sounds? :conf: New at this. Please don't flame
