Visitor In the Dark - a nightmare I just had

Damn, I can't go to sleep cause of this... ended about an hour ago.

I find myself awake(or so I thought)face up in my bed, arms crossed across chest, hands on opposite shoulder. It is dark but not pitch black and I hear the door open and close. I catch a glimpse of a tall, skinny, all black human like figure coming towards my bed. Suddenly, I feel a pressing sensation on top of me, as if someone is trying to press me into the bed. I try to fight back but for some reason, my arms are locked in their position. The being on top of me continues on, it seems with every breath he takes, his chest gets bigger and he pushes me further into my bed. The being seems like he is just laying flat on top of me, his chest where my chest is and his arms are both sides of my head, each hand pushing into my pillow. I try to make out a face but I see nothing but a pitch black shape.

The being continues to bear down on me. I have trouble breathing at this point and want to get this ****** off of me. For some reason, I can't scream or yell for help at all. I kept thinking through my head, 'I'm not going to die like this' I've heard stories of people dying in their sleep and at this point I had realize it was a nightmare that I couldn't wake up out of(no matter how hard I tried). So after struggling for a few seconds, I get one of my hands free and start to pull back my cover and think I'm going to knock this bitch off me. But no, he grabs my freed hand quickly, puts it back on my shoulder and reaches into a cup(which he was holding in his other hand?)and sprinkles some bitter tasting powder into my mouth. I start feeling dizzy instantaneously and my reactions slow down... I'm thinking, 'This is it. It's over' and the being presses down on me even harder. I start wheezing.

Just as I think it's about over(for me), the being gets off of me, walks over to the door and stops there long enough to speak to me. In a raspy low voice, he says... "You either have a cube or a savior." Door opens up and he walks out. Door shuts and I awake.

My arms free and the door in the nightmare is exactly where my closet is. I turn on the light, find a pen, and jot this stuff down as if to not forget it in detail.

The reason I'm telling you all this is because I know for a fact this is not an isolated dream. I've heard similar stories of figures in the night that come on and sit or lay on the chests of men, making it hard for them to breath. I am also an asian american and I remember reading somewhere that it is a common dream for asian men to have it(something in our diets-but I've been eating tons of American foods[especially fast food]lately... though I did have some Chinese food at a buffet restaurant on New Year's eve). One of my cousins, my dad and my uncle have admitted to having these visitors in the night... my dad has had several, although the last one was 5-6 years ago.

Also, weren't their similar dreams like this during the middle ages in Europe? I remember seeing a drawing in a book about some gargoyle looking monster sitting on a sleeping knight's chest and some text about trouble breathing and nightmares.

If anyone can help me with more info or have had similar experiences(or know someone that has), please post here. I want to know what is causing this and perhaps eliminate it from my sleep. Thanks.

i don't have similar experiences, but here are the things that might help:

not being able to yell or move is a HUGE clue that it's a dream
once you realize that it's a dream, you must understand that you have complete control. all you have to do is like imagine your personal tiger tearing that guy apart, and it will happen. anything you can imagine will take place. it's called lucid dreaming and it's pretty common.

It sounds very similar to sleep paralysis. Although you say it is a dream and not real which is interesting. The black figure sitting at the end of your bed and pressing down on your chest are classic signs. It is also known as 'Old Hag Syndrome' so do a seach on it in google. It happens to a lot of people apparenty, but i have never had it phew.

one two, freddy's coming for you, three four, you better shut the door....

Yep, that's almost certainly sleep paralysis. The immobility, inability to breathe and awareness of someone (or something?) else in the room are all tell-tale symptoms.

I've had it a couple of times in my life, but only once where I've hallucinated like that. I'll elaborate later on (time for bed).
