does your soundcard play anythign at all?

hmmm weird, what sound card you got?, and I take it your signal coming out of your mixer is coming out of the Tape output, if so, try moving the RCAs to the Booth or Master output (make sure mixer volume is low) and see if they work then, if they do, its your Tape RCA connection, also depending on your sound card, have you tried pluging the mixer into another connection, or do you just have 1 input on your soundcard?, hope some of this helps.

yes it does play my mp3s just fine.
there seems to be a mic input, and a line in input (which i have always used, it's the one i'm supposed to be using.)

actually i set it connected the master out. this way i could talk in the mic and be heard. this has always worked also.

since i have checked everything in the mixer, i'm convinced the problem is coming from the computer.

yes it is getting no sound from the mixer when i record. nothing but slight feedback (which is NOT music)

hmmmm

Well that is weird, maybe you should just try plugging into the mic, but make sure the volume of the mic is very low and same on your mixer, the sound won't be as good and it will be mono, but at least you can see if its the input on the soundcard, do you unplug that input alot?, if so you could of worn it out, hopefully it ain't that though, you should also try another output on the mixer aswell, or you could plug your pic into the input on your soundcard (not the mic one, but the one you use for your mixer) and see if you get anything, you should be able to find out were the problem is if you try some of these things, have you done anything with your computer like moved it or opened it?, or maybe installed some sound software?, because I have installed software before and it muted everything on my card, I uninstalled it and it worked again....how I hate Windows, well keep us updated.

hmm no i can't think that i uninstalled anything like that...

i do unplug that input a lot, yes..it's a pretty new computer (like from this summer) so it might not be that...

i have nothing else to plug into the comptuer to see if it works. my mic is a mixer mic.

hmmm i really gotta get this fixed!!! i hate computers so very very very much.

I hear ya, I hate them but for some reason I can't get away from it.:nervous:

Well my brain ain't working right now so I will ask around and see if anything crops up, if you got any Computer friends or DJ friends that live close by you should ask one to come round and have alook, if you got lots of friends like that have them all round and make a party out of the situation.:D
dknylady
thanks :)

wow good idea, a dj party. i do have tons of friends who are djs...hmmm...

ok here is something weird!!!

i was starting to mix and turned the sound down. suddenly i heard the record coming from the pair of headphones that are connected to my computer's sound output.

so clearly the computer is receiving the music.

but i go to soundforge and press record like i always do..nothing!

i go to winamp under the shoutcast settings and check input..nothing!

wtf?
dknylady
ah problem solved!!!!

i was messing around with the sound settings on winamp and there's this whole hidden control with mic in and , where you have to check the box for line in. so i got that. thank god.

why do they have to make it so hard??? grrr

anyway thanks for your help ;)

Sometimes different programs (especially if they are a bit flaky) will mess around with the settings for the mixer program that comes with your soundcard, and mute one of the inputs. Maybe that box you saw from WinAmp was the card's mixer.

I just set a desktop icon for my soundcard mixer, so I can quickly run the mixer to check its settings. With some cards if you double-click the volume control the mixer will pop up. I've got so much audio & video stuff that uses the soundcard, it's amazing that it works without much dorkin around.
