i honestly don't know. some girls call aguilera a complete slut. other girls say it's just her right to be proud of her body
i don't think avril is pretty, but she's very humble about her looks and doesn't go as far as to look slutty to express herself. |

Because there are so many disturbed children, teens, and young adults in society now, they feel that they can relate to her. And there is the first marketing scam.
Even though I am neither a Christina or Avril lover...I respect Avril much more because she has not incorporated 'sex' into her image. 'Sex' has proved to be one of society's greatest weakness in this day and age. Marketing scam number two, obviously. I do not support any singer who has strengthened society's weakness and has camouflaged their voice with sexuality to make more cash.

while you pose a good point, sex sells pop music, being indepentant and original and acting like a rebel sells...the crap she calls punk
and talk about a marketing stunt from christina?
while maybe avril isn't backed by a huge company in the way christina is, you gotta realize that when you come out trying to appeal to the punk crowd and calling yourself punk, and your only songs anyone knows are both slow ballads...something's not right
while christina's music right now i agree is a product of companies trying to sell things, so is avril's
while avril might not write her music (please dear lord say she writes her stuff, if she doesn't i'll lose all respect) to sell a product, companies are now making products that her music will sell
its tough how this works, its hard to avoid
side note although still related: next girl i see wearing a t-shirt and a tie i'm gonna ing deck
i can't tell if the tie thing is supposed to be empowering...which it isn't, its ugly
or maybe its making fun of businessmen who have to wear ties

Her w/out makeup just looks like some geeky chick in a 1979 photo, I don't know what's so ghastly (other than that in itself).

First I would like to say that attractiveness is an entirely subjective matter. And i agree with you. It seems that the only reason people find Christina "attractive" is due to her inability to keep her legs crossed and cloths on. While noone seems to find Avril attractive becuase a females "sexyness" seens to be determined by their ability to skimp down in clothing and wear whore like attire :rolleyes:

My earlier post was knee-jerkish and quick, here's my real point:
They're pop stars, it's show business, of course they're going to have plently of makeup! Are you saying that the only people entitled to a music career are the ones who are born looking perfect? How fair is that? Who cares what they look like without makeup!
And what I was saying about Avril (the afterschool special w/fangs thing was just a cheap shot, I admit it) is that you hear a lot of comments to the effect of "Holy cow she's ugly with no makeup! Ewww!!", but
a) Everyone has a few pictures where they look uglier than they do in real life
b) To me that "no makeup" pic just looks like an old pic of some ordinary woman from the late 1970s. Some people are grossed out by that, some aren't. We see people like that on the bus once in a while and don't think twice. |
