Help deleting a file on XP
View this Thread in Original format

I have an AVI file I can't delete!

I get an error saying another program is using that file, and to close that other program first.

But there are no other programs running! I even tried starting up in Safe Mode, hoping it would help, but I still could not delete the file!

I would be most grateful for any tips or suggestions.

Thanks so much!

I use GiPo MoveOnBoot to delete files. It can delete files, rename, or move files. The only thing I can think of is that you have to restart (when ever you want) for it to work. It is freeware and it is the best program I have found that works for free that does what it is intended for.
one site i found it at was:

-or do a search via

you can also boot into 'safe mode' and delete it no problem.
skip
and you can also delete it from dos

start->run-> type "cmd" and hit enter and then navigate to it and delete the ******! it's good to keep the porn .avi's out of sight!;)

why all the trouble .... just create a new textfile and save it as the file you want to delete ... voila

and then just delete the new file you saved ... works every time ..
