| i used to feel like that... now i live more in the present and don't care about the future... just enjoying the moment, i guess. who cares what happens in 5 years, life will take care of itself... peace... love... hippies of the world, unite! |

Uni is amazing. I guess it all depends on what you like. After my 2nd year o college I realized I like to learn psych. SO now I am a grad student learning and it is the sweetest thing. I guess I am more into a stable job than the excitement of changing paths.
to each his own. |

hehe, i'm in my 3rd year of a bachelor course in computer engineering, but i don't want to work with that at all (i have to retake like half of the exams also :p). i wanted to when i started i think, but my interests has changed a bit and i guess music has taken over my life. i kinda feel i've wasted those 3 years (and a ton of money cause it's a private school). music is all i really want to do, but i don't know if i'll be able to make a living out of it.
think i might sign up for something at university just do have something to do besides sitting infront of my computer :) |
Sounds kinda like what I've been going through. Second year Computer Science major, basically just programming. I was thinking about it a few months ago and realized I don't want to be programming for an entire day, let alone the rest of my life. Around the same time I started looking at music more seriously, as a possible career. Eventually I realized that it's very hard to break into the entertainment industry, and through an economic standpoint, I'd be better off (statistically) pursuing a "stable" job for a central means of monetary support, and trying to break into the music entertainment industry "on the side." I figure if I get good enough, and recognized enough, eventually I can leave the so-called day job and go into music full-time, but if not, nothing's really lost. At the end I've given my dream a shot, and a good one at that, and if it worked out, great, and if not, well, at least my life didn't fall into the gutter because of it.
And no, I'm not going into computer science, I've decided to change to Physics and Music so I can get into a good acoustical engineering school. |

am i the only one who sees something wrong with this? the "american dream"? it’s more of a nightmare if you ask me.
how can so many people live their lives according to what society moulds as "normal"? most people who go to college right after high school either change majors after the first year or just drop out.
i’m the type of guy people like to point fingers at, and many say i’m going nowhere in life because i’m no longer in school. however, those are the same people who will die without living a single day. so many people are constanly worrying about the future that they froget about what they should be doing with the present.
i don’t know why i posted this, i don’t exactly know what point i’m trying to get across, but for some reason i feel i should post it anyways. |

i wanna experience 90% of everything before i die.
ppl who stick with the straight and narrow are sad, take risks, do things spontaneously, do it ur way! it's ur life.
no offence to many ppl, and i know this probably sounds like a very very pathetic statement, but here goes anyways:
everyone: go take drugs they're good. (but PLEASE keep in moderation)
i remember when i was 17 studyin in Dublin meetin this dork from norway, who was soo proud that he's never touched any drug in his life. not even a puff od a joint. felt like smackin him.
if i was told i'm was gonna die in a year, the first thing i'd do is try herion :)
then get wankered every weekend on something.
anyways, i've totally drifted off topic, but generally, as someone else has already posted, do not reach 100 yrs old and have a big massive stash in the bank, and look back and think "i've wasted my life saving & being sensible, and not that i'm loaded i'm unable to enjoy life"
live for the present!
i'm here for a good time! not a long time!
rave to the grave!!

i really hope there's an after life.. because if there's not, i'm gonan be really pissed off because i'm kinda half livin this life on the basis that there will be an amazing eternal afterlife.
i'm 20 now. if there's no afterlife, then that leaves me with about another 40 years of being capable of going trekking over mountains and seeing the world.
and about another 20 years of gettin faced on some substance whether it be legal or not.
there better be an after life!! if there's not i'm gonna kick my religion teachers ass!! |

Dude, I'm not anti-drug but you didn't actually think of any examples of how to live life to the fullest other than getting totally ed out of your mind. Spontaneity is good, experiencing life is good, but I'd rather look back on my years with memories of fun times and a sense of fulfillment. Drugs, like any source of instant gratification, are ultimately but a fleeting amusement. |

You're right, you do sound pathetic. There is much more to life than getting ed up every day.

OK, I'm going to break part of this down:
High school: I'm done that -- 8 months ahead (thanks to a private school I was attending that I liked (only 50 students total; very small classes; I learned more and had to memorise less).
College/University: I'm thinking about attending Temple University Japan, getting involved photogrsphy and learning the Japanese language, as well as music.
After college/university: Hopefully work in a part of the photography field while on the side, producing electronic music. If I get very good at it, as well as DJ'ing, maybe this could be my actual career. I dream of doing well in this environment, as well as breaking new ground (not to mention setting some Guiness World Records) in the Electronic and New Age music worlds. I also want to travel the world, learn many different languages, as well as maybe invent something.
Marriage: I don't plan to do this until I know a potential romantic partner EXTREMELY WELL (emphasis on the 'well'), we're together for at least 5 - 10 years, and have had a minimum-to-zero amount of arguments (compatibility issues or otherwise).
Children: I would not like to 'have' children in the traditional sense, but rather adopt them instead. A trend of very negative energy (anger from time to time, deep depression, alchoholism, & crime) that I don't want to discuss in detail here travels through my fathers side of the family that has affected me to a small degree. I just don't want this gene to travel yet another generation as it has resulted in many problems in the past. Also, I think about the population levels. Why bring another child into this world when there are plenty that get abused neglected, suffer from starvation, etc.? Conflicts in this area of my life include: Many women dream of having children. The above paragraph explains why I'd rather not. Questions? PM them to me.
Retiring: I'm not thinking about this but, I'll always be saving up and investing money in the bank in the future.
I've always questioned why so many people just can't see past the typical school-college-work-marriage-retire-die lifestyle. A unique lifestyle doesn't just mean what hobbies or side-things you do. It means what you do with your life as a whole...
In closing, I wish everyone not just a secessful life but, a happy one as well... :-) |
