I'm sure someone could tell you exactly how to make that synth, but what about when another song comes along, and you want to know how to make it sound like that one? What you really need to do is learn how to program synths on your own.
I'm pretty sure that most of the synth sounds in hip-hop originate from the same synths we use for trance/house. |

To get that just blaze sound you are gonna need to to use a arppegio for the melody. Once you've got you melody, use a Analog Vsti or if you have a VA for the sound. you might want to add some distortion.

I've made sounds similar to it witha pro-53. select a saw wave and tune it down so that it sounds like a bass. Make sure the delay is off or turned down on the pro-53. You might want to use 2 osc slightly detuned not to much. Turn the unison up to you desire. Usee a lowpass filter and open it up to about 3 o'clock or all of the way. Duplicate the synth so you have to Pro-53's open and pan one to the right and the other to the left. Add a slight bit of reverb to it. Also turn the glide up slighty. This may not be exact, but it should point you in the right direction.
I know the neptunes use tons of Va. Nord lead and MS2000 are 2 that show up all over thier songs. |

Making the bass in the track you posted is quite easy. Its a saw waveform. What you need is a subtractive synthesizer. There are heaps out there and many of them are more than capable of making that sound.
2 x saw waves
LP filter, a little resonance for a bit of bite.
Bit of distortion maybe
Maybe a TINY bit of reverb (couldn't hurt)
turn the portamento up a little bit (refered to as glide on some synth) to get it roll into the next key.
Amp release is very short, adjust other amp envelopes to make it sound right. Doesn't sound like there is much filter envelope action happening in there. |
