yeah i got many of these noob questions i just dont know the definite answer and id like to know instead of just guessing so...

and no flaming please... :tongue2

if im doing a song in d# major all the base instruments (ie kick, hhats, etc) would be done on d#? i know this sounds stupid.... but they are all sampled at regular c, so i should alter them to the key the song is in right? thanks-

hehehe KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!! and im weak.....
Mr.Mystery
Uh... drums aren't in any key.
DJ-Fuq
yeah they are, but it doesnt matter unless it doesnt sound right in other keys
hey cheggy
The drums are not samples at C, they are just loaded into the sampler into the C key by default. Usually, sampels are loaded in with the root as C3 and then they go up and down from there.

We wont flame you if the question isn't asked every day and if it makes sense.
Cheggy is right..

most synth samplers work like this
you have a sample, which you assign to a key lets say c3
it doesn't matter what key that is, it wont be pitched.
next to the basic key you can set how far the sample reaches over the keyboard. For drumsamples you mostly choose only one key (so you can make drummaps) unless you have to pitch a sound.
for synth sounds you mostly choose the whole keyboard
for realistic instruments you mostly work with multisamples, (ex 2 samples of the instrument per octave), with crossfading and stuff, if you have only 1 sample the instrument will sound unnatural.
a soundmodule (jv 1080, cs2x, ...) actually is nothing more than a sampler with onboard ROM sounds
