Nothing worse than equipment problems at a live gig...

I just did my second live club gig last night, and it was my first time running into the joys of equipment problems.

The guy who was there the first hour or so was playing tracks off a laptop, and then I took over to start spinning vinyl. Two things were messed up though:

- right channel cut out on one of the decks

- the levels for the same deck were waaaaaaaaaayyyy low once the stereo problem was fixed up

I was so glad that there weren't a lot of people there last night. It's so frustrating and even a bit embarassing to run into that stuff. I don't exactly like walking into a club and sounding like I'm utterly incapable of mixing....

Fortunately both issues were fixed up in about 15 minutes while some tunes were streamed from a laptop. Needless to say, I was a really, really happy guy when I threw Delerium - Silence on the misbehaving deck and heard it finally cranking out the sound at the right levels.

Redeemed myself at that point with a banging trance set. :)

Its annoying isnt it

Ive seen djs fired for leaving the console in a state and not respecting equipment

As you say, it reflects badly on you

Drives me mad following a dj the night before who uses only cds- and doesnt give a crap about the damage they inflict on the turntables....last week the earth from one of the 1210s was snapped under the mixer- how the hell they managed to do that i have no idea- but i shouldnt be f*cking about with a torch, a penknife and a mix cd fixing it

All part of the experience

i hear that yup
or eg: a club that normally has some dude playing CDs brings out the turntables just for you.. a nice Pioneer DJM600 and two belt drive tables old enough to probably have a Victorola stamp on them ahaha.. wtf.. *laff* i did as best as i could tho :) thank god for extra slippery matts spared away in my crate
