| my main problem with Microsoft is Windows Media Player that they bury in the OS. Too bad I can't say no to it. I have it right now and the thing shows like piss on a lot of files. I am getting a Mac next time. Maybe more competition from other platforms will force them to get their together and not take the consumer for granted. |

my main problem with microsoft is that they have monopoly but no one does anything about it, actually there is a lot of things that COULD be done to make the software market a lot more free! :) |

I also hate how they try and get stranglehold on various software markets by forcing people to keep there software installed. They've basically locked people in to keeping IE/Outlook/WMP on their machines, wether they like it or not.
Personally, I Use Mozilla Firebird & Thunderbird for web browsing & email, and Winamp/BsPlayer for audio/video, so I don't need IE/WMP, but I can't even uninstall them off my own machine. |

erm too much to list on why i hate M$, but i probably blame the game developeres except a few that keep me chained to windows :mad:
just hope when zeta goes final, it turns out to be great. once open office is ported to it, you have a complete and fast multimedia system. for gaming though, linux is most likely your only option, unless theres better wine support under mac os x/xwindows |

maybe a monopoly is actually a good thing in some fields?
I would hate to see how much software would cost if there were 12 operating system of equal market share existing in our world.
I'm happy the way it is, Microsoft under pressure to be competitive, but still retaining a very large market share.
My Windows XP crashes much less than the linux system I had installed a few years back.. even if it is more bloated, it is much more "smooth", convient, efficient, and it has all the software and features I want. Considering it only cost me $5 for a CD (student fair), its basically free software for all I'm concerned. |

from what im told from friends in the IT industry is that, you dont use the best product, but the product that you are told by upper management. its even worse when those upper managements are but buddies with someone from m$ :(

You sure it was the linux system, as in the kernel? and not a module, driver, or application? most of the time when people complain that linux crashed, its because of xwindows. xp is not that smooth by default nor convient, effiecient. ie, do your install, and so on, but when compared to my tweaks and uninstalls, itll be alot faster. i usually have to disable 2/3 of the default services, then edit infs, and registry to delete/disable some even more software. the corporate world, or average user doesnt pay $5 for license, but respectively an yearly license and once every 2-3 years or part of a new computer. anyway, i really hope some one/team cracks DRM in future windows releases, or do you guys want to be even less in control? |

Gotta agree rizen, I have disabled so much B.S. in XP its unreal. A host of nonsensical services that used to slow down my startup. I was a huge Windows fan until I learnt that there was better out there than it. I am waiting to get a Mac as soon as I get the cash for the G5 and will relegate XP to a memory. From what I have seen Longhorn doesn't impress me at all, still time left though. I am not a big gamer so the Mac and gaming thing doesn't really phase me. |

| You're saying your linux system of a few years ago wasn't as good as XP. Well I imagine that the windows of a few years ago wasn't as good as that linux system. Perhaps if you tried a new version of linux you'd see that it's better than XP now? |
