Papa Smurf - WTF?
View this Thread in Original format

Ok, I'm not going to bag the guy here but I have a few questions. I've been going out in Melbourne for the past 3/4 years and have only seen the guys name on posters and stuff for ZoS and similar places, until recently. However, in the past year I've seen him play sets immediately after PVD and Tiesto. Can someone explain to me:

1. Why is this so because his style just doesn't seem to fit the night?

2. Why is he suddenly getting these sort of set times?

3. Why does he take so long getting ready at the beginning of a set? I remember at PVD it seemed like he took 5 minutes to cue up his first record.

4. What is the deal with name Papa Smurf anyway?

That is all I have to say. If anybody can help me out it would be appreciated. I'm not having a go at the guy (even though I find his sets quite uninspiring) but just curious to know about this guy.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel this way.

Is it something to do with money Paulie? It's money isn't it? If you don't reply then I'll assume it's money? Or having dodgy friends.
Mangler
simple.... Papa Smurf = Melt entertainment, which to Mark James = people through the door... same reason Midro gets a gig through his association with Bass Station, & Scott Alert & Ajax gets gigs through the Hard Kandy association.. no mystery.

What Mangler said :|

He is a great promoter and well, the stadium @ together was full at the end...so I guess he is doing something right

I spose he takes a while to cue up his first track...A. To let the crowd cheer for the big international..and B.Build a bit of suspense..

He does know how to bring energy into a room
Master_Yoda
His music didn't really agree with me, I left 5 mins into his set.

And he really isn't the person to have straight after any of the international acts i've seen him play after, he needs to be put in a different room along with those hard kandy try hards.

It should be someone like Steve to finish up.. now that would make a perfect ending to an already awesome nite.

As for his name... umm, Don't know if u noticed but he is kind of short, pudgy and wears glasses. Just like Papa smurf.

Although i dont agree with papa smurfs style its what 3/4 of the main arena want to hear, hard banging tunes. As for the hard kandy/bassstation try hards, i actually quite enjoyed them on nye. Kaos was brilliant as was ben kashaoske, and the scott alert and nexus were the same ol, midro was a shoker. But i do agree with you before tiesto the tempo should of dropped for tiesto, aka steve. At the end of the day, midro has a hell of a loyal following as with the papa hence mark james being the buisness man he is, will continue to play these guys as they gaurantee ticket sales.

RE: taking a long time to mix out of internationals' last track - it's rude not to let their last track play out.
