When you make tracks, what's your preferred length?
I mean, when does a song get to be too long and drawn you?
I think 5-8 minutes is a good length.
But there still has to be some form of changes throughout it, build-ups and breakdowns and such. |

| I just make my song, and only when I play it in media player do I see how long it actually is, it usually ends up between 6-8 indeed |

| Length is only a by-product of the tune itself. I don't really think about it... except if the tune goes to over 10 minutes, then I usually try to cut some pieces off unless the length is justified in some way (long intro/outro, several different parts etc.). |

Same here, I usually don't even think about it, I just concentrate on the song.
Thankfully i've never made anything like Endre's Starport Indra (14 minutes, sheesh). :nervous: |

Oh my God, These lengths are WAY too long. WTF?:eyes: YOU CRAZZAY
You would have to do so much, have chopped up bits, different style breakdowns. (not including the intro-outro)Its very hard to keep interest throughout, however its not not impossible.
Im not saying over 6min tracks are too long but be carefull it you want to get radio play and not have your track HOG a dj mix.

| That's what a 'radio edit' is for I think, no ? :) Like for silence etc... which was the longest song I ever heared when it came out on vinyl :D |

And how many trance tunes do you know that are under 6 minutes? |

| My tracks are usually 8-9 minutes, as I make them all pretty DJ friendly and hence have about a minute on either end with nothing much more than the beat to allow for good mixing. If I ever actually made something that someone would consider playing on mainstream radio then I guess I could make a radio rip, lol. |

| I've read that if you want to get your tune pressed onto vinyl, it should be no more than 10-12 minutes, as after that you tend to get amplitude discrepancies. |
