I know how you feel!
I've been in that situation before. Get a job where they will appreciate you and not take advantage of you. I know it's harder than it sounds though. |

i do know what you mean when you say you put in extra hours and stuff and they still don't really care.
they just care about themselves. i used to do so much extra work for the owner of the restaurant i worked in but when it came down to me really needing something they didn't really care. not all employers are like that but the ones that are should be shot.
i'm lucky that i work for people that appreciate what i do for them and i don't really mind going that extra mile to help out. |

I have decided that the only way I will ever really be appreciated for the work I do is if I work for myself. I have had a few career changes since I graduated university and tested the waters in different industries and at different sized companies. Seems to be a common theme that companies don't really care about the little people. Working for the man doesn't pay. No matter how much you give they still want more. I work for a large company at the moment where my coworkers and the day to day work environment are awesome, however, upper management could give a if you work your ass off to save their tails...its expected and they know that there is always another young warm body just waiting to take your place... so leave if you want ...seems to be the attitude. My VP led an HR training session that was presented to our group yesterday and he started off by saying, "(insert company name here) knows you are all superstars. If you worked for (insert competitors name here)they would most likely tell you that you are superstars but we will never tell you that because we expect more from you." (EXACT WORDS FROM HIS MOUTH) Hey, good management philosophy guys...don't ever reward your employees with kind words or gratitude for the hard work they have done because they just might decide to stay and want to continue to work for the company. And they wonder why the turnover in staff is so high.
I ran my own business for 2 years and am trying to go that route again. Can't argue with the boss' treatment when you are the boss. And working in your pajama rules.
I hope you find something that makes you happy and a place where you are appreciated. This world needs more managers and leaders who care about their employees. I am hoping our generation will deliver that. |
