Bristol going under...?

Right, I'll try and keep this short as I'm just back and rather odd-feeling, so to speak.

Slinky have now announced the end of Slinky Bristol, at least for the time. And with (Bortsta's beloved) Scream moving to a monthly Saturday slot, I've decided to hang my head in shame :nervous: If anyone know's how the scene here might regenerated a bit - all offers v welcome!

One very good option might include the place I've just arrived back from - Castro's. This is the only place in Bristol with a proper late licence, and lots of 'banging hard house' too, although a little gay in that respect. :eyespop: :wtf:

Any sugestions welcome, anyway!

I'm gutted :( , I always liked the Creation soundsystem especially when pvd played there. It was probably one of the highlights of last year. This just goes to show that Slinky is not invincible to the decline in the UK clubbing industry.

Heheh! Well, she didn't really mind too much, considering it was hardhouse an' all...

Just been informed of some rather interesting developments from Louis the Scream promoter:

"In view of the developments at Creation and the probable departure of Slinky we have decided to split scream into two Saturday night events.
We do not believe that it would be good for the club to go back to weekly events even if they would now be on Saturdays, instead we will now be promoting x12 as a new brand in its own right and scream will now be once a month on a Saturday also.
Both nights will be major events in their capacity, X12 will feature the very best in hard dance music and will be the leading night in our diary. Whereas scream will feature a combination of trance and hard dance artistes in order to accomodate the gap which will be left by Slinky.
It would on face value appear to be good news for us at scream that our main competition could be closing, however it is right for us to recognise that Slinky serves Bristol well and should it stop will be missed by its many regulars.
We will do our utmost to make the best of this situation and to make scream and X12 the best nights we can.
See you all on the 31st for the launch of X12 and then again on the Saturday 21st February for the re launch of scream "

Also Scott Bond is playing at the Fire Station on Friday 20th February for what must be some new night :)

I think I smell a Bristol weekender coming :happy2:

It could go 2 ways - either the bigger clubs in Bristol will realise there's a gap in the market, or the entire scene will collapse. Its not looking too good at the moment, but hopefully things should pickup. Meanwhile, as you say there's always Castro's!!!

:toocool:

There are some good smaller nights coming up in Bristol though, maybe see you there!:tongue3

Yeah, I was damn annoyed when I saw the announcement on Monday. What's the use of a Casino at Creation?!!?

Maybe Slinky will be able to relocate to another venue, else I'll have keep my eye on the Scream listings or go all the way over town to The Depot.

So did you have a good weekend in Bristol? Mine was pretty sweet - I hit The Station which was alright, and then headed into Castro's. Hope you had some fun - still waiting to meet you around... :gsmile:

PRESS RELEASE FROM SLINKY HQ
As of January 2004 Slinky has left its Bristol home of almost 3 years - Creation.

Creation has been taken by receivership and now has new owners, these owners are looking to implement new policies within the venue and as a result the current management and oursleves have left the premises with immediate effect. Slinky is now looking at various other options and plans to continue a weekly club night in 2004 in the West Country.

Slinky Bournemouth is unaffected by this and continues to open every friday.

Chang monkey
i hear slinky is moving to lakota? ne one know if this is true?
spacetrain
On the slinky forum it does say they have moved to Lakota on Fridays which starts in March. Don't know if this is weekly tho. Can't really see how slinky would work in lakota especially with the main room having the decks in an alcove which can only be seen from the balcony. You will know what I mean if you have been there.

Godskitchen might not happen in Cardiff again as they weren't too impressed with the turnout for the main room. Its likely it will be more hard dance orientated next time. The next event was going to be in April with Marco V but it has been taken off his schedule. It might still happen.
