Repost from the other forum :

As you can see, Russian soldiers are pictured on this photo...info is an advertisement to some game for PS2, that was published in EGM(electronic gaming monthly) Notice the black ribbons on the pics that soldiers are holding, which appear to be the box covers of the game.
Now here is the original...

Those soldiers are The Russian Honour Guard at the funeral of kia troops from "Sofrinskaya" Brigade. They are holding pictures of their fallen comrades that died in Chechnya.
Whoever did that ing advertisement is a complete moron, to say the least. Honestly, this is the first and only thing, which I've seen on the net, that completely pissed me off. Total absence of morals & respect...just how ignorant and arrogant can those s be?! How would the public react if they tried to pull that off with planes sticking out of WTC?! WTF is wrong with people in our days??

Normally when advertisments are complained about it's usually people well overreacting, and making a fuss over nothing. But in this case I agree that the advert above is just disrespectful every way u look at it. It's very distasteful.
Does anyone remember the Starbucks poster that were called back because it was too reminiscent of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. (It blatently wasn't tho)

Now that is ridiculous imo. There is nothing wrong with the above advertisment and is a prime example of people overreacting, and just simply being thick. |

Speaking of advertisements and September 11, I remember last July or August Vodafone with the help of some *cough* people fooled and forced their logo to be displayed onto Ground Zero. |

Actually that is very reminiscent of the WTC attacks, VERY much so... remember, it doesn't have to be an exact photo or modified photo. The fact that the cups are shaped as towers, or can represent the WTC towers (especially as they are nearly identical in the above photo), and the insects can represent the airplanes, is enough (and there are two, one for each tower, and each one is near a different tower, as if they are going to crash into them). Then there's a big "Collapse" in the title -- even more cues to remind us of 9/11!
Our pattern recognition "program" easily picks this out and recalls the WTC attacks, especially if we are traumatized from the event, as many people were.
IMHO, I would say that Starbucks did a reasonable thing when they recalled this ad.
EDIT: What especially grabs your attention, it seems to me, is the dragonfly in the upper-left corner. When you first look at the ad, you see the dragonfly, and notice it's oriented as if it's about to fly into the left cup, then you notice the two cups, and the butterfly, and --whammo--, "9/11" pops into mind. |

| Not only the person who created the ad but everyone who let that be published should be taken to law. I think the studios and Sony could be in big trouble if someone decides to take the matter to court. |
