i've been in a battle do the death with some friends about the pronounce of "router" and "reroute" words
i've tried text 2 voice applications and some differ..
i heard it in homeworld 2 when the mothership.."mind" speaks..
how do we spell it?
. route -> rute or raut (sort of =P)
. reroute -> rerute or reraut
i know it's silly but it's that kinda of stupid things that mess our minds hehe |

| wtf? Router is how you spell router and you pronounce it ROW-ter and route is how you spell route and you pronounce it ROWt? Am I missing something. RE-ROOT and ROOT are also valid wawys of saying the respective words, although I think it varies by region :) |

You mean, a battle to the death about the *pronounciation* of those words.
IIRC, "rute" is the British/European pronounciation and "raut" is the American one. Neither is "better."
But since the French pronounce it "rute", the Americans might want to stick with the other one. |

it's just like "behavior" and "behaviour", both are correct, it's just that one's british and another american.
row-te / ru-te
row-ter / ru-ter |

row-ter?
wtf?!
like row as in row boat?
shouldn't it be like rao-ter
row-ter would sound like if you said 'wrote' with an r, 'wroter' |

I'm sure he didn't mean to spell it that way.

That's the thing.. there is no "good" way; I'm used to saying "rauter"
and "rute", kind of a mix, but I never cared for "correctness"... :) |

I use both for "route," although I usually pronounce "re-route" ri-raaut (my best phonetic representation...you can't use IPA on the internet :p) and for "route" it depends on context. If it's the verb, I pronounce it raau' (glottal stop at the end) while if it's the noun, I usually pronounce it ruut or ruu'.
As my Linguistics 100 prof told my class, there's no such thing as good or bad English, just dialects :D And as far as that goes, I speak a weird bastardised mix of British, Irish, and Canadian English, with a lot of German, French, Italian and Finnish loan-words and a slight Finnish accent. Yes, I'm weird, I know :haha: |
