I'm assuming he means setting tonearm weights and that sort of thing. Since I don't have decks I don't know myself, but since I will be picking mine up in a few months time I am quite interested as well. If it all comes with the decks then that's great but I won't know until someone tells me so or I find out when I look through the manual when I get my decks.

Wouldn't there be the RCA's, the ground, and the kinda important POWER??

Anyways. As for setting the tone arm weights, you need to get the tone arm weight positioned so that the entire tone arm kinda "floats" in the air. Once you can get that part set, there is a dial with numbers on it. Each (whole) number is 1 gram of weight. When you get the tone arm floating, without moving the weights, turn the numbered dial to "0". Once that is done, you turn the weights inward which will cause the numbered dial to turn with them and the numbers with turn. depending on the needles you have with your decks, set the tone arm weight (the amount of pressure in grams) to the desired amount (EX: if you want 2.5 grams of pressure, turn the wieghts to 2.5) and then leave it. One full turn from "0" to "0" is 3 grams (on my decks atleast).

Hope this helps out. And sorry if it doesn't make perfect sense. Its a hard thing to explain on a computer. :p

Cheers.

I love how many useless replies you get here... Guys stop replying if you have NOTHING good to say.... seriously. "look at the manual buddy!" doesnt help .

Anyways, I wish I was at my real comp cause I have a bunch of really good websites for 1200 specs all saved but I found a couple more good ones anyways for ya.

http://www.djdepot.com/technics1200faq.html
good site... tells you basics on how to adjust certain parts of your TTs... I think it tells you how to open them up too

http://www.nwdma.org/members/1200/
same kind of site. I skimmed it but I believe its quite similar (if not straight up copied) from the site above

http://funkymusic.tripod.com/turn.html#4
Another site, different way to put it, same information

Hope these can help ya in anyways, if not I'm sure other people can.

The problem with this post is if 10 seconds were spent doing a search of this forum you'd come up with all the information you need.

That however would be too logical.

also there should be instructions that came with your needles to tell you how to set the height and the weight.

My anti-skate = 0

I think what you have the anti-skate to is somewhat based on personal preference and what you feel is best for you.

For me personally I have my setup at home with the same anti-skate reading as I have for the weights of my tonearms. Both @ 3. I have never had any problems with it like this.

If you want to get an absolute zero for your tonearm so it doesn't skate, get a one sided vinyl and put it on the platter shiny side up. Place the needed in the middle of the record (as in 50% between the outside and inside) and then start the platter. Tweak the antiskate until the needle stays in the middle and doesn't go either towards the outer edge or the inner edge.

That has worked well in the past as well.

Hey Toufas,

Grats on getting your decks.
First up there is very little mentioned in the manual that you get with the decks mainly because it all comes down to the specs that the manufacturer of your cartridges will give you i.e. they are all different.

Second,
Being an ex turntablist I find that all the crap listed in the manual for the stylus are a load of wank also. Whilst very often manufacturers will put settings that will give the best results if you were just going to sitback and listen to music, the majority of us here don't just do that. Manufacturers will also want to protect themselves from wearing out your records and getting into trouble that way.
In truth the only thing you should be concerned with is making sure the groove doesn't skip when cueing up and that the decks are less sensitive to manipulation. This often involves settings that are perhaps a little less likely to meet the approval of the audiophiles amongst us.

I have my weight on the back of the tone arm with the numbers facing away from me and so the hole is the same level as the end of the tone arm (if that makes sense?). At home I have Ortofon Concords but I get to use all sorts in clubs (if the ones at the venue are so bad I will usually stick on my own).

Anti skating can be what the hell it likes as I have never noticed any difference either way.

I have probably made about as much sense as I usually do he he and will probably get flamed to hell but just calling it as I see it.

Cheers
Nem

PS
If there is one thing that pisses me off in the forums it's when people say 'Use the search function'. You might as well answer the bloody question if you are going to take the time to type that. And besides most of the other threads are about 6 million pages (Ok, slight exageration) of people not agreeing anyway.

OK... SO I HAD A BAD DAY!:whip:
