Idea...why wouldn't this work?

I'm really wanting to have a party. And I mean a PARTY. This past weekend I spent 6 hours and had 10 DJs lined up with plenty of equipment for 3 rooms, all DJs were spinning for free, and none had a problem not getting paid cus they had fun entertaining a crowd!

However, we got shut down by 3AM. I hate Gainesville.

I'm thinking a party in the next few months somewhere around the Gainesville area. I'm wanting an old school style underground party. My friends and I are willing to drop some cash, get some decent DJs, sound, lights, and make blow up. I'm thinking 3 rooms, DJs from 10PM-8/10AM...in a place where cops wouldn't be a problem.

It really seems as if this hasn't even been tried in a really long time. I'm wondering why? I understand there are legal problems, but thats kinda what the underground is about. If I could get a headliner would this work? I've come up with ALOT of reasons why it wouldn't work, but none yet that couldn't be taken care of with PROPER preparations.

For obvious reasons, no further info will be posted, so don't flame me for this...please drop comments...and keep your eyes open in the coming months! Gainesville needs it's soul back!!!!!!!:tongue2

Damn sorry man if I was down there I would be like helping out. Well how about soem abandon warehouse or out in fields somehwere. You guy got really good weather to ,so make it outdoors then. :o :D

Thats what I'm thinking...I know so many places out in the middle of ing nowhere that has like various feilds and such that could be used.

Question about this, and the only problem at the moment with this idea: power? ummm...I know I could get generorators, but it seems like it would take a load of generated pwer to do like 3 stages with sounds and lights and all.

An abandoned warehouse was my original idea...but this hasn't been done in so long, WHY NOT!?!? It seems like it'd be easier than clubs, especially with closing laws and such...so isn't there a reason(other than obvious legalities) that this has not even been tried?

THIS IS A SERIOUS INQUIRY!!! PLEASE COMMENT!!!

ok so ive been holding my tongue on commenting b/c i know a party like this is now impossible in gville.. they have a party patrol for godsakes... plus all the djs i knew at one time the last time i threw a party like that spring break 2002 have all moved. the house we threw the party at we got away with b/c it was on the border of where UPD and GPD both patrol so both expected the other to do something and no one did (the house is where the new delta zeta will be) GPD is INSANE about trying to nail ppl for E in fact, they have an entire division dedicated to this, and this kind of party will attract tons of people who have been forced to bust their dealers... its just trouble... the underground in gville has been hopelessly stomped... all thats left is some breaks in ocala.....i think subversion closing was the last nail in the coffin

well... thats my two cents

There are still DJs in Gainesville...they are all on that board, and they have mad talent...I stongly suggest a look-see!!!! :D

And I know the underground is dead in Gainesville...hence my need to throw something! Warehouse parties happen alot, just not around here. You mentioned ocala...hmmm...not too bad of an idea actually...

And yeah, the "Party Patrol" will kinda be my main focus for this...see, where people have failed to find a crack in the system for the past couple years, I'm gonna try to succeed. There has gotta be something outside of their limits that we can take advantage of. (LOL @ the cops having this thread bookmarked already)

And please don't hold your tounge...I know it seems impossible but I'm not saying I want to have a X party on Depot Ave. I'm saying that I want a real party where it's about the damn music and not the drugs or the politics or the money or anything else, and that I'm gonna find a place sooner or later!:D

hey i used to hang out on the enation boards a lot but stopped b/c it ended up being the same bunch of ppl bitching and spamming a lot i just got really sick of it.. many of the ppl at our old parties were from enation... shek, tom, steve chadwick, dave preston... etc.. and then some have talent but seem unable to play any NEW music
i never said you were or werent gonna hold an x party its just that any kind of party with djs, etc is associated with it to the cops and theyll have SOME dude there asking for pills and as is at ANY party there will be someone there that can get them, and then that person will be SOL.... it sucks...

Out of curiosity, what exactly is this "party patrol" you speak of? It sounds really ghey.

In the late 1990's Gainesville was out of control as far as partying goes. Clubs stayed open well past dawn, people got insanely ed up and kids started dying. In 1999 the city and the university started cracking down. 7 fraternities were banned from campus and the city implemented a 4am mandatory closing time, as well as forming a special police force known as the " Party Patrol". The main reason for its formation was due to an incident at campus clubs apartments in the fall of 1999. A fraternity brother of mine was killed at a party during a fight. It was a huge fight, maybe 300 people drunk as and everyone was swinging. It was like 4 different frats going at it, as well as people who just wanted to fight cause they were drunk. Take incidents like that and combine it with drug rings that got busted during the summer of 99 as well as all the kids over dosing at clubs from too much GHB/XTC/K.....the city got pissed and decided to take action. The democrats were kicked out of office and republicans took control. After that they changed the closing time from 4:00am to 2:00am. Since then the city has been lame as hell. I understand them doing something to curb the drug use and under age binge drinking that was going on....but they took things a little too far.

Hope that sheds some light.

Craig

Yikes, well it seems like they did a good job of killing the scene, if that's what they were after. Classic example of everyone having to suffer because of a bunch of morons.

No, I don't think you understand. It wasn't just a few morons, it was a load of people. Honestly, I remember going out and seeing more people rolling than people drunk. And it wasn't just a couple of clubs that were like that, it was most of them. I remember walking in one club and seeing about 15 people in a line sitting on the ground rubbing each others back while taking hits from a whip cream cannister. Then I remember walking over to another club after leaving that one and seeing 3 chicks sitting in VIP all layed out in a K hole, and this was a hip/hop club. Seriously, it was bad. There was a time where Vicks products were rare in Gainesville. Something had to be done.
