Aha ! Tiesto-Traffic - > Thin ?

Hello,

please do not start dissing the track or say you hate it and would like Tiesto to die or give birth to your child or anything.

Now onto my question.

I found out my overal sound of a track I'm working on has that seem feel as Traffic. Not that type of melody etc.. but the reverb type he used there, and actually the rather thin lead.

Let's say he wasn't famous, you think his track would have gotten selected ? Cause it sounds so thin if you compare it to other stuff. I keep reading that a thin song is not a pro song, so ok I totally agree now.

he has a kick, good bass, and a thin lead, so that ain't much is it ? Or do you think it DOESN'T sound thin ? If you are of that opinion, could you explain lme then what you DO consider as thin sounding ?

This would be very helpful really, and please don't flame Traffic/Tiesto, this is not that kind of thread/forum.

It never would of gotten released if it was made by some amateur in these forums. Tiesto could make a 10 minute tune with just monkey sounds and it would sell.
kewlness
it's definately popularity...

But one thing I've really found that can give a track it's fullness, is that to cover the whole frequency spectrum as much of the time as possible... But in doing that, there is the issue of muddying your track, that's why you try to individually place each instrument in it's own frequency range and try to mix everything together so that nothing interferes with each other

Traffic was never meant to be released either, Tiesto just made it for fun so he could play it in a few sets.

It was the fans' demands that got it released.

the 'fans demand' ? Wtf ? For real ? I was a huge fan of his productions before that track, when he did that he was just another sellout lol, I'm getting over it now though, loved the skin remix :)

Uh, it's the other way around for me, I think the Skin remix is absolute garbage.

wow really ? What do you hate about it ? Her voice is killer ok, so he didn't make that part. But the twirly tune thingy, I love that :)

I didn't know that. But why would he have to release it if the fans wanted it, he could just have posted it for free on his website. But I guess an exta few Armani suits is more important to him then making his fans happy. I was a hugeeeeeeeeee Tiesto fan. Back in 95- 96 when I was listening to Sash and Eurodance crap I discovered a few cds that would change my life. The forbidden paradise mixes. I was hooked and Tiesto became an idol to me. Then 3 years later I went to a huge rave in Montreal where he preformed as a second string DJ to Paul Okenfold who I never liked, and everyone was ranting and raving "Oekenfold is so good, he's the best bla bla" and i just stood there and said "I came here too see the birth of a trance god" by the end of the rave you will have forgotten about Oekenfold and that night Tiesto did as I had forseen. He spun a set that not only astonished the crowd, but also left people scratching their heads, as to thinking " what the hell was that?" I want more!!!!" But you all know the path of fame and money, it's a bright path full of brilliant lights that eventually leads to a dark bottomless pit" . All you can do is pray.

The vocals suck, the tune is hollow and empty and the synths are amateurish.

I personally really like this track; if you've ever seen the reaction it gets at the club then you'll see why. Yeah, it's a pretty thin sounding as far as the synths go, but it's really well produced (at least the percussions and bass), and as a result it dominates on a big system. As Mr. Mystery said though, this was never meant for release, and you're right, it probably never would have been released if it was some random wank like ourselves that produced it.

BelgianGuru
lol :D

What songs do you REALLY like Mystery ? Just curious.. With good leads and all that, maybe it could change my way of thinking 'good leads' etc.. and improve me :)
