bringing equipment to Europe...?

| I'm leaving in two weeks for London, and am planning on bringing my equipment with me. However, I know Europe uses a different electrical socket plug, and I'm confused as to how I'm gonna make this work...are there conversion cords available? I'm confused as to if there is a difference between oh, lets say a DJM600 you buy here in the states, as opposed to a DJM600 you get in Europe. The plugs would have to be different I guess. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

There are two differences between european and america/japan electricity:
US voltage is 110v, EU is 220v
US socket is 2 flat pin, EU is 2 round pins.
So what you have to buy is a foreign travel converter, which converts from 110v 2 flat pin to 220v 2 round pin.
These cost between 5-30$ and sell everywhere. Buy a decent one, usually a 75 watt is enough for CDJ's and TT's (20$). For speakers, buy a 150 or 200 watt (30$).
However, some equipment, like the Technics 1210 (only the 1210 models) have a voltage selector (in this case under the platter). With this kind of equipment all you have to buy is a 2 flat -> 2 round pin converter which costs about $1.
WARNING: If you get the voltage wrong, like plugging your TT in europe with the voltage selector in 110v and only a flat-to-round adaptor, you will damage the power unit permanently and the TT will need to be serviced (unless the unit has a fuse; i think only good speakers have this).
I know all this because i buy most of the equipment in the USA, second-hand even w/ 100$+ shipping is so much cheaper then here.
You lucky bastards :whip:
EDIT: just remembered the UK plug is difference from the rest of europe (!). So the power conversion is still 110 to 220 volt, but the plug itself is not 2 round pins, but rather this:

These UK guys are so strange... they're completely different from the rest of europe, they drive on the left and have different plugs... I cant imagine driving on the left :conf: |

| If you have the "internation" Tech's you can just flip the voltage selector switch, then you only need a little cheap converter instead of the more expensive ones. I think m3d's and some others have the voltage switch, not sure which ones though. |
