My roommate has a labtop from MDG. Its loaded spec wise, and he got it for a pretty good price. BUT, the power supply ed up within a few months, and now his labtop on gets 30 seconds worth of power if its not plugged-in.

I've only ever been to their Scarborough location when I lived there, several years ago...HORRIBLE service, and even shady dealings. I personally witnessed two incidents, so this isn't just me repeating some story...

Someone purchased an upgrade system (ie. already had monitor, keyboard, etc). Problem was, when he brought it home, it had no RAM in it...NONE. I was there when he came back. The store clerk said he didn't ask or pay for any...the guy asks what kind of twat gets a system with no memory and what kind of upgrade package doesn't include it? He also said that he did ask and pay for it. They refused to budge, insisting he didn't request or pay for any until he pulled out his invoice that listed the RAM that he also paid for  No apology, nothing...they just went and got it for him. Newsgroups online had numerous negative experiences about MDG...but things may have changed and that was one location, so who knows. Most packaged systems skimp on some parts (cheap motherboard or vid card often)...that's part of the reason why they're cheap. That and they advertise a LOT and people think that must mean they're good...

I'd suggest a custom build from a small, independent store. Two I've dealt with over the years that have good prices, service and staff:

Infonec
ACM Computers

LOL! I knew someone was bound to say something like that.

Mind you i heard quite a few negative comments from friends who bought from MDG. But i dunno, I would go with small stores, hardly any half assed jobs.

Try PC Village or Canada Computers. They have great prices and you get exactly what you want.

find a friend who knows what hes doing
and buy the parts off of ebay....

then build it yourself

i had a friend who bought a PC from them, he had to get the hard drive replaced like every 6 months or so. so that means he lost everything every 6 months. apperently they use old parts, thast how they keep the price so low.

the best bet is get a friend to build one for you. if you live close enough, i can even do it for you.:)
