Tinnitus & Hearing Loss

I acquired Tinnitus (which for those who don't know is a persistent ringing in the ears. The same ringing that I used to hear after a good night) after seeing Oakey at Heaven in London in May last year. Oakey played for three hours the longest I have have ever heard him play for. This seemed to fade to a hiss which I could cope with but now, this christmas my balance has gone totally and my hearing is going in my left ear. I suspect it is due to the same damage that Oakey and the Heaven sound system inflicted on me last year. I would be interested to know if anybody else here has suffered hearing damage as a result of clubbing as I suspect if it isn't already a lot of people then one day it will be.
By the way it is incurable at this stage in medical science, and if it is any use to anybody this was the 20th time I had seen Oakey, every time before the ringing went after the night or the next day, this one time it is permanent. I now have trouble walking in a straight line. BEWARE THE VOLUME IN MODERN CLUBS. |

this is really terrible.. i'm really sorry for your loss of hearing. I couldnt imagine my life without it. I use high-end ear plugs for every club night (when i remember to take them :whip: ) |

I've worn earplugs at every event since the second club I went to. I have to live in a career of audio engineering and DJing, so I need my ears at top notch..... ALWAYS WEAR EARPLUGS AT CLUBS!!!!
level of average conversation 60-70 dB (spl)
optimal listenning level for music ~85 dB (spl)
threashold of pain 120-130 dB (spl)
threashold of blood [permanent damage to the ears] 130-140 dB (spl)
speakers at clubs must produce enough dBs to allow ppl in the mid-crowd to hear no less than 90 dB. TO do that the speakers must put out at least 120-130 dB. Those idiots who stand right next to the subs and speakers without earplugs are DESTINED to lose their hearing.
^^tidbit of the day. |

I find it's DJing that hurts my ears. Sometimes after I have been on the decks my ears are in agony. After a night out though my ears are usually fine. Sometimes my the inside of my ears kinda feels like it is fluctuating inside, like someone just skimmed my ear with their hand. Or like if a football goes close by your ear. I don't use 'inear' earphones anymore because they increase bacteria in your ears by a massive 700% which can cause infection, and I also try to DJ with the volumes much quieter now.
I hardly ever use earplugs in clubs, but if I do then I use the ER-20's. Might actually go to the doctors soon just to check i'm ok. |

| nothing much you can do to reverse it. It's annoying, I bring ear plugs all the time when I go to clubs. |
