Started to play with music 4 years ago. I finally figured out how to beatmatch and mix around 2 1/2 years ago with mp3s. Bought my first decks 1 1/2 years ago and soon realized how aweful they were. Been mixing on the new Stanton STR8-150's for about 1/2 a year now. No one ever taught me anything about DJ'ing...not a single thing. I could be doin something something wrong and wouldn't know it (but I highly doubt it :) ) I play mostly progressive trance...like to start really light, maybe even some deep prog (Deep Dish style) and move into the uplifiting stuff before finishing with hard tracks, like Dumonde.
Got my demo CD's circulating the St. Louis area and hopefully will start spinnin live shortly. I spend hours each day practicing and have have a nice supply of vinyl, so I know I'm ready. |

I'm starting out pretty soon, I have 2 CDJ-800s, just need a mixer, so for now, I suck :D
My style will probably be trance, tech-trance, techno, might change as soon as I start though. ;)
For the rest, I've been playing guitar for about 6.5 years, was in the church band for like 3 playing bass as community service :happy2: |

Well, I've only been DJing for about 1 1/2 years. My style is definately TRANCE. I have so many styles of trance, Epic, uplifting, Hard trance and progressive, that I don't really stick to 1. I normally like to start off light, or dark. Push style or AVB Style. Work my way to the harder stuff like Dumonde and Cosmic Gate. I find it progresses a set so nicely if you can find the right tracks to build it with.
I've only played in a few places, more like House parties and keggers. But I'm throwing my very first party here in Whistler B.C. this coming Wednesday at one of the popular clubs called Tommy Africa's. I'll be the headlining DJ and we'll see where things go from there. I'll be giving out my first demo CD's and got other club owners to come listen too.
I also taught myself how to DJ. Of course I've had people give me a few pointers and whatnot, but for the most part, when you practice on average 4 hours a day, you don't really need anyone to teach you how to do it.
When people ask me how I learnt to DJ and if I can teach them (which I guess is a compliment to my style and abilities), the first thing I tell them is to go out and buy their own decks! |

I've been DJing for about 8 years. My style is strictly Turntablism in every sense of the word. I do spin some Trance, but I'm very limited in that dept. I spin a LOT of old-school (true school) hiphop w/ a lot of recognizable breaks. I've never really DJed a solid venue or club, but I have done numerous house parties, hotel parties for friends, etc.
My equipment consists of (2) Technic 1200 MkII's, a Vestax 06Pro-A Mixer, tons & tons of records. Not really a CD guy, but if I have a couple tracks that NEED to be played on CD, of course I'll bring a player.
I've never really charged anyone for me to DJ at their party, but I do request certain things be exclusively available to myself (cooler of bud-light, the ok to smoke a few ;), and a nice chill area for a couple of my friends).
In 2004 - my goal is basically to keep practicing and come up w/ a couple sets to compete in the yearly DMC Competition. Anyways...... we'll see how that goes! |
