oh my god, someone gets it! come on y'all, the song sounds like it's from the 50s for a reason and the video goes with that. outkast is not the average hip-hop or rap production and they never have been. it was such a big thing when they put that ho-down bit in "rosa parks" however many years ago it was.

i'd like to thank the rest of y'all for contributing to discussion and intelligence with comments such as " rap" and "outkast sux."

I suppose you could say it's 'rap' or 'hip hop', but they certainly took a whole different twist on the idea of it. I'm personally not certainly sure how to classify it...

I for one, think it's a good song in its' original incarnation. I doubt any sort of trance/house/prog remix of it could do it any justice and whoever did said remake is probably well versed in the art of butchering. The song is full of energy and funny/clever verses, far more creativity than your average trance-by-numbers bull that people die over at this forum en masse. OutKast isn't afraid to make fun of themselves, as this song surely exemplifies :) I guess that value is lost on people that believe every time they hear a drumroll they are supposed to be entranced or put into some state of awe.

for crying outloud the "hey ya" elevation remix doesn't even have any words in it to relate it to the original hip-hop version. let it go rap/hip hop haters.
failsafe

I don't hate all hip-hop or rap whatever you call it but that song is just painfull to listen to.

biznology
i heard this on NPR (National Public Radio) here and realized that it was going to be massively overplayed. For non-USers, NPR is mainly geared towards people over-50...

it is a good song, but it was more clever before everyone started trying to decide what *it* was genrewise - cause i dont think it matters much.

check out Andre 3000s DnB remake of 'Favorite Things' on The Love Below...its pretty cool and perhaps more up the EDM alley|
