Fill me in on all the latest Major League Baseball 2004 pre-season trades, rumours, free agent signings, as well as your opinions on which teams were the biggest winners and biggest losers in terms of free agent signings. Bear in mind which teams lost players while others gained ;-).
I am gonna my list of the biggest winners:
1. Baltimore Orioles: added enough pitching and hitting to raise anyone's eyebrowses (East contenders all of a sudden)
2. Houston Astros: WOW! Signed Petitte and Rocket to contracts. Something tells me the damned Cubbies wont be winnning that division this year.
3. New York Yankees: Even though they lost some pitching in off-season, they gained it back by huge signings of such likes as Sheffield (DAM, I AM GONNA MISS THE SHEFF'S CHEFS!), Vasquez ...
Boston Red Sox: now that Yanks have lost some key pitchers, they will be stronger contenders for the Eastern crown this season, with a couple of their huge signings.
San Diego Padres: Moving to a new stadium, acquired a few players ... plus there's Maddux rumours.
Toronto Blue Jays: signed some key players, and are pretty much intact for the upcoming season, but the contention for that division just became a tighter race.
BIGGEST LOSER: Of course, without a doubt, Atlanta Braves - who are UNLOADING in a HURRY. Looks like there will not be a 13th consecutive division title ... :( |

well, about the astros, if you look at clemens' ERA last year, and pettite's ERA every year, they werent that good. it's just that they were on the yankees so they received massive run support. except to see a drop in those wins for both pitchers and the ERA to go up. (houston is a hitters park). plus the cubs still have prior (he is on the road to being the greatest pitcher EVER) and wood, and are looking at Maddux. not too shabby. they added Derek Lee at 1st. i dunno, i think its between the phillies and the cubs in the National League. NL west completely went to crap after this season ended... same with the East actually. if only the Mets got Vladimir.
speaking of Vlad, if he stays healthy his whole career, than the Angels got the best hitter in Major League Baseball, once Bonds retires, for 5 seasons. if he doesnt, then i am certainly happy that the Mets didnt get him.
AL East is going to be interesting with what the yankees, sox, and blue jays have done. i still count out the orioles because all they did was add a few bats, still no pitching. and Javy Lopez will not put up those #'s again.
it will be interesting to see where Carlos Beltran is playing after July 31st (prays its the Mets) also Magglio Ordonez. i cant wait till next off season because there are so many great players due for free agency even though two great pitchers were taken out of it (Vasquez and Wood both extended contracts.
should be a pretty good 2004 season. |
