How to produce (noobish)

Hey first i want to say i'm not good at writing enlish so exuse me for it.
Now i have a question i know fruity loops very well (not evrything) but i can work whit it. But i don't know how to produce trance don't know what samples i need where i even have to start. So could someone give some tips, tricks, even a book or site where trance is expladed (hope you understand this). Thanks in advance. |

Best way to learn a certain style is to listen to a song that is very describing for that type of music. (I'd suggest Energy 52 - Cafe del mar (original mix), the song is old, but it's just PURE trance :) ) If you're going to produce trance, find some good songs with DJ Tiesto, Push and other major artists like them (If you don't already have a bunch of songs that is) and listen to what they are doing in their songs.
Listen to the drums.. what kind of drum samples are they using?? (well I can tell you that, 99.999% They are using TR-909 drum synthesizer sounds :) )
How does the bass pattern work? Try listening to the intro of some songs, the bass is often most audible there.
What kind of arpeggios/Leads are there? What patterns, and how do they sound... Try to recreate the sound with a synth of your choice.
I don't know if you have any VST instruments, but if you don't, I would say you need AT LEAST one of these (you can produce without professional synths, but it never sounds as good):

Triangle II (great for bass)

Mate, also try getting some midi files of trance songs. These will show you the notes that make up the melody of songs. This will help you to understand how trance melodies are made.
Try searching the internet for tr-909 and tr-808 samples. There is a site I found a long time ago with some really good free samples on them, so search Google and you might find them.
The 909 and 808 were old roland percussion synths which have been very popular in making trance music.
Don't forget to have a look around these forums. There are always some interesting threads that will help you make trance music. The midi file thread at the top of the page will point you in the right direction to get some decent midi files. |

Another good idea is to register @ sectionz.com.. it is a community for everything production, people post many FLP files on sectionz, of all genres and u can simply open them up and analyze them.
I would agree with cheggy, find some midis and open them up and study the progression, and mess around with the notes so you find out which notes work together and which simply suck.
But yea, register @ www.sectionz.com it will really help you. |
