im on logic 5.5 pc

Im trying to put my synths to a midi file that a friend sent me... But it just keeps reseting my softsynths to the first patch after i've gone and selected the sounds that i want for the midi notes.

how do i keep my softsynths from resetting?

That's probably a midi program change message that is on the beginning of the midi track (or tracks), I don't quite remember how you filter those out in Logic (long time ago I even used that stuff), but that's where you gotta look (midi messages). Happens a lot in midi files you get from the net.

I get that problem, and yeah, its the program change messages.

Just copy the notes from inside the matrix of the midi object and paste them into a fresh one.

I've copied till my fingers have fallen off for the past 8 months... I think it's time for me to understand why it's happening.. and how to locate the place where it happens, and keep it from ever happening again :)
hey cheggy
Midi data is stored in the midi file. Some of this data can include stuff like paramater changes thru midi cc as well as patch numbers. I often find that if i download a midi file, it will reset to patch number 0 every time the loop starts again. Just copy the notes in the file and paste them into another one.

You can filter out midi messages, but I don't know how to in Logic. It's best not too as well, cos there might be times when you want to use them.

Yeah, you could set the Layer's automation to OFF instead of READ.

right go to View/track automation ,and on the midi layer you want swith the function to 'Write' what this will do is Overwrite all CC and automation data. Hit record and press nothing, and bingo. Should work, ill try later.

[edit]NO, I forgot Automation in logic is not done with Midi, its done with logics own format. You need to reset the hyper edit values.
Ill try anf figure that one out.

okay, go to the midi track you want to change, and select the object.

go to View/Hyper draw, at the bottom is 'Program Change'

Set the program change to 0, or whatever one you want. You can also do this for the other parameters. Good luck
