TECH: Self-restart

Recently, I have been experiencing restarting troubles.

My computer reboots all by itself at random times. I did a Spyware and Virus scan, which turned up nothing.
I thought it was the power supply, so I went and got a 450W today. While it seems to help a bit, the crash still occurs.

Also, I DID turn off the Auto-Reset in the System Menu, but no BSOD comes up.

Here are the system specs

450W PSU
Athlon XP 1900+
ECS K7S5A Mobo w/ SIS735 chipset
GeForce FX 5200
120gb HD
80gb HD
SB Live! 5.1
512MB DDR233
OS: Windows 2000 Pro w/ Latest Service Pack

any ideas? I have updated all drivers, with the exception of the BIOS...

Sounds like some sort of serious IRQ conflict. But I've never heard of win2k doing that without a bluescreen.

What kind of network card you have? 90% of IRQ conflicts are caused by ty network cards. Try uninstalling your network card in device manager.

Also, confirm that your sb live and any onboard sound aren't pissing each other off.

If its nothing like that... it sounds like your mobo might be hosed.

possible heat issue.

you might be on to something with the Ethernet card.

The Ethernet is onboard, and shares IRQ 11 with the SB Live!

Will do some reading....

Also, once in awhile there is a BSOD Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal, which usually means IRQ conflict... but I only got it once.

ouch, u do have heat issue, my athlon xp at 2205 never gets above 35c/24c under full load. make sure ur heatsink is in full contact with the cpu and with some as3/as5 on it. your mobo and video sucks too but thats not the problem. also does ti restart when u game or do intensive stuff? if do then u have heat issue, try opening case and let it run

sounds like a problem you get from an incorrectly put together home built system.

it's not a heat issue. 61c is hot when under extreme use (Gaming, etc), but the thermal paste has worn off, and needs to be replaced. But, it's still not overheat hot...

So I was right, look don't get all defensive. Problem like a pc shutting down for no reason usually means something hardware related is wrong and since u put the system together why dont u take some responsibility for whats happening. I know that it might seem to you impossible that you could have done something wrong
