I have an XP1800 with 256DDR RAM and want to upgrade to XP2800 with 512 DDR (pc2700).
Would this be a straight swap?
(of course i would buy the appropriate heatsink and fan)

| yes and if you are going with a barton core i would recommend pc3200 ram, i made the mistake of buying corsair xms ram (kinda expensive) when there are better ones that are cheaper like buffalo and can make better timings |

| As long as your mobo supports the new processor and RAM then yeah. |

Can't help ya there, I don't know much about AMD processors. I'm running a P4 2.6GHz w/ hyper-threading here. |

XP2800 runs at 333FSB.
your motherboard FSB runs at 266mhz, which i do beleive is 2600xp. i think you will find 2800xp is to fast for your motherboard so it may not be supported,
i hope i am wrong as you have already ordered the parts :(
i looked up for motherboard on msi its saying 2600xp + but i dont see how it could support the + if it only runs at 266mhz

It could be a 266 fsb version... otherwise your losing some performance but it will still be faster :) |

| try overclocking before u buy a new one, my 1467 (1700+) did 2205 at 10.5x210 1.575 voltage, at alittle over default 1.5 and is very stable. if your ram cant handle it do async timing on it. your board should unofficially support 333 speed. i think u can change the multiplier on your chip but keep the slower bus and oc it if u have problems. |
