Project5... Outlook is good

To follow up to my earlier thread:

Project5 is simply amazing. Downloaded the new patch and, heck, the boys at cakewalk even pointed me to another new bank of 128 patches to use with the DS864 Sampler softsynth. Im in heaven.:toothless

THE PROS:
It comes with a great anolog based softsynth...a sampler based softsynth, an anolog type drum kit based on sampling, a sythesizer drum kit, 2 (count'em) kickass pattern sequencers, another sampling module for creating acid loops or some such thing (what the heck is this Cyclone deal??). 2 CDs chalk full of World Ethnic vocals and drum loop samples and sound patches, etc.
Accepts both VSTs & DXis...cool VST adapter!

Needless to say I'll be in training for another 3 years. Support is good, and the new P5 online community is lookin promising. They expect to be able to email, upload and share everything from loops and samples to complete works on there.

Plus they are releasing ANOTHER patch (1.5) on Jan. 31/04.

THE CONS:
Still lookin for some.
Manual doesnt really concentrate on each module...only basic stuff. They leave a lot to personal exploration.
Doesn't record audio...but you can workaround that with GrooveSampler or Cyclone. I use goldwave anyhow for that.
Bugs. Not a lot. I've had one crash in the 20 or so hours I've spent on it. BUT...
I did find a DOOZY of a bad glitch with Velocity (the drum sampler).
After downloading the SUPERWAVE P8 softsynth (which is amazing actually!) I noticed that as soon as you lay a track down with Superwave P8 the drum sounds all disappear. WHATTHE..? When you replace Superwave with another synth the sound restores....swap it back and drums are gone again. Others on P5.com have now confirmed it.
But thats okay...there's TONNES of other options I suppose, and Cakewalk will probably fix this problem soon too (I HOPE!)

Back to my dungeon! OUT!:happy2:
dbl
now take and post a discription with a link in the READ HERE BEFORE YOU POST thread :)
Digital Aura
sorry dbl..

I totally didnt think of it...shoulda posted there instead!

Will do that later!
Low Profile
I Have Project 5 full version, and it is really really good considering the price tag :)
There are two things however that I haven't been able to resolve:
When I rewire it to cubase and press the play button in either programs, everything locks up, CPU useage goes to 100%, even if I'm not playing any notes! When I press stop everything goes back to normal.
And also, The PSYN spends alot of CPU power, it's a really good synth (you can do supersaw stuff with it and everything :D ), but running a full sequence of them is CPU suicide :)

But I still like it very much, I've been playing around with it for a couple of weeks now.

I'm really interested in P5. But alot of people say it's a CPU hog, so I better upgrade my PC. Also, how is PSynth in comparison to other VAs? What about hardware VAs like Virus? How does PSynth stack up?
Digital Aura
I have to tell you first off...I have nothing to compare it to.
Project5 is the first utility Ive tried in my efforts to produce my own trance tunes.
But I'll say one thing...its everything you'll need to start! Its got many different utilities (some even overlap each other).
One thing I just learned is how fabulous the SYNCHRON32 midi step sequencer actually is. It makes drums and arpeggios soooo easy. Could this be cheating??? :D
Also, the support is pretty decent...on the P5 forums, guys are great to help out and the Cakewalk staff are always checkin' in to make sure your questions get answered within a day!!!! There's a wicked download coming on Jan 30/04 that will patch it up and improve the main P-Seq sequencer quite a bit!

CPU HOG? um...yes...get a beast of a computer. I find that if you don't make efficient use of EQ's and FX then you max out on the first bloody synth you use!!! (they say you should throw FX on the aux busses and route several grouped instruments through the FX that way to conserve CPU usage).
Psyn is a great synth...but don't expect a virus or anything. The DS864 is a nice synth/sampler that will probably be my most used synth once I figure it all out (complicated!).

I'd be happy to entertain any questions anyone might have about P5...drop me a line! :eyespop:

How about posting some nice smooth trance tracks with real fat kicks and VA synth sounds and patterns, all done with P5? The factory demos are crap IMO.
