My canadian charm will hopefully show people i'm not american, I got a couple small canadian patches to sew onto my bags(grade 8 home-ec comes in handy). I certainly expect to keep a journal, it'll be something to look back on later and think: "damnit, those were good times".

I don't like the idea of too many patches on my gear, makes me look like too much of a tourist.

agreed, but i also found it saved my ass more than once... plus, that flag is on your backpack which you don't lug around that much anyways really, and with it on, you're gonna look like a tourist regardless, so... besides, a met a lot of people cuz of it too, i was approached many times, or i'd approach others wearing it and spark up a conversation and meet new people, it's great really, especially if you're travelling solo...

so yeah, i'd definitely recommend it!

If you end up in India, just beware of the beggars. They tend to get violent. . Also don't feel afraid to BARGAIN. eg: If something costs $100, say you'll give them $10 for it and don't be surprised if they actually sell it to you for that price.

Thanks for all the tips / advice, Dday is only 5days away. I've been starting to say my goodbye's to my friends, never realized how hard that would be until now.

Where abouts did you go trancegeek?

Yeah, Montenegro is mmmmmmmm ;)

Ja imam sator od zvezdanog neba finog tkanja
podjimo brzo jer strasno mi fale putovanja..

Na skriveno te vodim mesto
izmedju planina i mora
gde gorski vetar peva pesmu
jos ne svice rujna zora.
Na skriveno te vodim mesto
gde su i nocu tople stene.
Montenegro, zove tebe, zove tebe,
Montenegro, zove mene..

:D:D:D soo nostalgic

Have you been to Eastern Europe?

PS I love your sig...totally speaks the mind of a traveller. ;)

:) I am Eastern European, from Montenegro.. which is, by the way, in southeastern Europe, across from Italy, north of Greece. But yeah, I've lived in Russia for a bit too and been to Hungary, Romania, Austria (not really eastern Europe per se), Slovakia, Poland (skiing in Tatre), etc..

More importantly how has everyone else paid for these adventures? My bank account is not without limit, even with working in australia it'll be spending a huge amount of money.

All I'm gonna say is: don't spend a huge amount of money. I actually found it to be much more fun when I didn't have money. It's possible. You're in your 20s, be modest.. who cares about luxury at this age? Sleep on the beach at least once, it's wicked :)

if ur gonna end up in germany and need some info/ contacts - Bavaria especially - yes, i am a pure-bred alpine girl, born & raised ;) - let me know! same goes for austria and les genevoises (geneva)!

have a great trip! be safe & and always stay aware and critical of your surroundings! ...and slap on that canadian flag!! it will save ur ass! ;)

make sure to keep a photocopy of your documents at home or with someone who can give you the info over the phone if necessary!
also, it might be a good idea to even check in with the canadian consulate in the country u'll be travelling in, especially when going to less developed countries, or countries that are not exactly considered 'safe'. it's better to take precautions than to be sorry in the end. at least u'll be registered and your whereabouts are on file! it's simple and doesn't take long! take this as a piece of advice from a human rights lawyer! ;)

all the best & keep us posted on your adventures! :)

p.s. i'll give u tips where to find the best home/ monastery-brewed beer, but i won't yodle for u!! :P
