also i think you'll find that most PC's wont be able to handle a 3gig wav file.
Ive got a 4.5gig wav file here that i cant open. It contains PVD's 5hr set off nova from last year, but yeah, not much use to me cos i cant open it :( |

| comparing previous live recordings i've got those recorded straight from the sound desk to wav's to the mp3 versions there's a fair bit of difference, especially when you are basically reliving an event you were at and you have it up pretty loud. I wasn't suggesting it be put up for dl'ing in wav format, but if I could get a cd sent. I'd be more than happy to pay the costs involved. after all, getting the full set of corsten in 2001 cost me a case of beer, and that was a bargain. |

Hehehe... Well I wasn't talking about ONE 3GB file... But that just being the total data size...
The reason you can't open the file is probably due to a memory constraint... Obviously u wouldn't have 4.5GB of RAM, but another way of *possibly* helping ur PC getting there is to open up a hell of a lot of extra virtual memory... If you don't know how to do this then move to option 2...
Which would be to split the file... There must be a file splitting utility around somewhere that should do the trick...
When I record off Nova I always save the WAV as 1hr chunks... A lot more manageable at around 600MB per file :happy2: |

Yeah, memory and cpu sure determine what you can and can't do with those huge files. When Rush went all night I sometimes had 6 gig wavs to contend with in the morning. Maybe if Matt tries to open the file in say SoundForge or a similar proggy and cut into those manageable chunks. It's very easy - just select the parts you want and copy n paste and convert to mp3. |
