Hi peoples !
Just curious what's behind this. A friend of mine used a serial which he got from another friend, put this into a share programm and then there came up a screen:
"Stolen Serial found. You have to purchase RIGHT NOW or the information gathered will be sent to the authorities."
Isn't this some kind of blackmail and did anyone of you experience ever something similar. He didn't purchase the software now, having no guarantee that this would do any use. He then made test, trying the same procedure on a pc without internet connection and the same message appeared.

What do you think about all this ? Is it just an evil method to make people buy the software ?

| Sounds like a joke to me. Try entering in any random serial number and see if the same message comes up. |

pretty much, and ty one at that.. "you have to purchase RIGHT NOW..." my ass, for that you deserved to be cracked
/although i was concerned cracking photoshop 8.0 as nowadays every ing program connects to the internet for some reason... didn't work anyway, stupid crack group rushed with the crack and they botched shortcut keys... no good for me
what are they gonna do though, send your IP to the ISP? |

| They can get your information but they cant do anything with it. I remember a long time ago when you cracked bulletproof FTP it would disconect you at random times and bring up the purchase page in IE telling you that your key was stolen and you needed to buy the software. All they can do is ask you to purchase the software nicely, becuase the way they find out your using an illegal key isn't legal. Kind of freaky but nothing serious. |

I also told him no to be worried ...although because I think that you can't make such a blackmailing offer: Buy or get in touch with law. Isn't this illegal.

yea its a load of bollocks, as FrosT said, ive been using bpftp cracked for years, and every week or so it will come up with 'illegal key, your IP details will be collected and given to the authorities blah blah blah...'
needless to say, im still here :) |
